I think the only reason Sumlin is still here is because there were no better options available we felt we could get.

TAMU's problem is a Texas problem. Because high schools all run a hurry up spread offense in Texas, there aren't enough nasty defensive linemen out of Texas. This also leads to a deficiency in elite running backs. TAMU can't recruit linemen out of Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama yet so they're stuck. And as a result, they can't keep up with the SEC West for a full year. See how Charlie Strong is struggling to build his team over in Austin?
All this and Sumlin needs to drop the "I'm not your coach, I'm your friend" spiel.

You realize that the players that left our team vocally said his big issue was that he was distant and had no relationship or friendship with any players?

Sumlin's going to be ok, he'll get things in order and put a competitive product on the field.

Sumlin kept both a bad DC and crap OC one year too long. That is on him and has set the team back. He won the Kyler Murray contest but would have been better off losing it as the kid was a cancer. The only thing that saved Sumlin's job this year after losing 2 QB's before the bowl and losing again to LSU, was the price of oil....at $95 a barrel, he would be gone already.

He needs to win 10 games next year or there will be a 'mutual' deal for him to leave.
