Question about the Rice band $EC deal...

What was the meaning? I have heard lots of different opinions...
I assumed Rice still had some bad blood about being left out after the SWC broke up, and this was them thowing the Texas A&M thing back in UTs face...
(rather than an actual slap at the SEC)...

the MOB does shite like this every game,, last time at Austin they made fun of the 'horns players being caught with drugs the UT crowd loved it.

When we played Rice in the 70s, their band's halftime show was a salute to the Louisiana state bird, the mosquito--It was hilarious...
