Sure doesn't translate well into the professional game.
Why do pro teams shy away from most drafted players who come out out of a Triple Option(RB, Offensive linemen), Spread(QB, WR, RB), Spread Option(QB, WR, RB, TE).

Too bad that's irrelevant to the conversation about COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Dude, you shouldn't be upset about running a gimmick offense. Nothing to be ashamed about if it wins you games

Sorry bundy, brown offered by LSU

If you look closely, it does involve football. In the olden times of football, everyone was running the wing, option, or some variation of that. Then offenses EVOLVED into the pro-style and power-I type offenses. The Spread is the next step in the evolution of football offense.
THIS
Football is ever changing- defenses adapt to offensive innovations- and offenses adapt to those innovations made by the defense
The Spread is not a gimmick- that's idiotspeak...hell, what State runs is a combination on 1930's football meshed with modern option and zone concepts

My definition of a gimmick offense: An offense that is designed to mask lack of talent,
Not a bad definition but the examples have a few holes. Did Texas, OU, Nebraska, Florida ever lack talent?
Wildcat is just a formation, not a style or philospohy.

air raid requires the most talent.
I don't know about that but I think it this is a good example of gimmick offense according to your definition.

who said it has to?
Pro defenses practice all day long and play defense for a living. It is so sophisticated now that you have to pass constantly to win in the NFL- it's hard to run the ball anymore.
Pro football is a totally different game and pretty much everybody runs the same shite- making it boring to me. I love college football because it can be different still.
But I will say this- the zone read and option stuff works in the pros- it's just the QB's cant take the punishment like they can in college. Thats why it isnt done
but remind me how many QB's Dan Mullen has had drafted in the 1st round compared to Nick Saban?

Don't know about Saban, but technically Merlins has 0... Wasn't at UF Tebow's final year.
However, your other analysis is spot on. (That hurt to type)

Technically.....Tebow's 1st round draft pick honors should go to the QB coach who helped him COMPLETELY CHANGE HIS THROWING MECHANICS right before the draft.

are you saying Tebow DIDN'T have to change his throwing mechanics before the draft or that he got contracted Mullen to help him do it?

Tebow's throwing motion has long been criticized, so he's now being tutored on throwing in the "pro style." He won't unveil this new style until Florida's pro day on March 17 and we're skeptical that he can undo over four years of bad habits in a couple months. Source: ESPN.com

He worked with a hired trainer to help change his mechanics.

Guys going into the draft hire people to work with them or tweak their game before the draft. This is nothing new.
I don't think Mullen should get all the credit and I def don't think that other guy should either.

yeah....but how many of them are widely publicized for having to completely change their mechanics?

This is like Bundy grasping at straws to criticize Nutt.
Posted on 7/19/11 at 7:38 pm to pankReb
I wouldn't say he "completely changed" his mechanics. He just started bringing his throwing arm higher and stopped looping it for a quicker release. A lot of qbs have to change stuff before the draft.
Everything Tebow does is publicized. You know this.
