As far as SWC you had the good Texas, UH, and Tech teams but you never knew what Baylor SMU or Rice were doing. SMU had a run with Koncak and Baylor with Teagle but Rice was always pitiful the blue curtain at Autry was hideous

Relating that game into the timelines I've been looking at lately, that was the last major sports contest vs Texas prior to the announcement we were going to the SEC a few months later.
