We're going to see players getting a lot more "stipend" money in the future, and it will increase each year and be really good for the seniors.
We'll also see the system dramatically changed with regard to how schools will be allowed to insure players, and it'll be for a lot more money, based upon their potential draft spots after their junior seasons. And it should be that way.
I've been fortunate enough to get to see a lot of practices and games, up close and from the sidelines over the past decade. The size and speed of the guys out there these days is stunning ... and it's incredibly violent. We're seeing DBs these days who, not that long ago would have been LBs. We're seeing DLinemen and OLinemen who are so big and strong ... I mean the trench battles literally sound like combat at times. Or like small cars hitting head on. I've heard legs snap and knees come apart and gone home thinking it sounded like chicken bones being wrenched apart underwater ... except a lot louder.
I saw Marcus Lattimore's knee come apart 25 yards away with my Son standing next to me ... and I've seen actual combat - it still made me cringe and turn away but I'll never forget the screams from Lattimore or the screams for help from Tennessee players.
These kids deserve more. It's the way the game is going. It's a 24/7/365 job for them these days and they are still pushed to make the grades, attend classes, attend team charity functions, etc.
We say we treat them like gods already, and we do to some extent but imho they deserve more.
Start off smallish ... a few hundred bucks a month like they are getting now. Then double it every year. Pay that injury insurance rider their senior season ... they deserve it. Doesn't have to be a million dollar policy for all of them, but the standouts ... yeah, they deserve it and who knows, it might be enough to make them stay.
