They actually mean alot, unfortunately.

You have a team like clemson, ranked 3rd. They win first 6 games, then lose week 7 to mia. Drop down to 8th. Win the rest of their games. And can slip in playoffs.

Lets say lsu unranked, win their first 7 games. Get top 12 ranked. Then lose to bama and knocked down to 18th..

One of these teams still has shot at playoffs, the other dont. All because they were initially ranked so high they have some margin for error

First of all, there is no way in hell we are undefeated going into Bama. I hope Im wrong, but this is a rebuilding year 100%. Now, if we ARE 8-1 with the only the loss to Bama, I can guarantee you we aren't way down at #18.

Both teams i used was basic example. U can swap any teams in top 10 and unranked u like and its same thing.

The SEC is respected at a ridiculous level at this point. Vandy could go 11-2 this year and win the SEC and they'd be in playoffs, despite not even getting a vote in the preseason top 25 polls.
