I think the best solution would be to keep the season and bowls exactly as they are now, then take the "final" post-bowl BCS rankings and add a three game, four team playoff.
The only changes that would have to happen would be to maybe shorten the length of bowl season, so we aren't waiting two months from the end of the regular season to crown a champion.
I don't think the SEC would be hamstrung by having a championship game, as it appears every major conference will have one in the next five years. That said, I don't believe in any conference champions getting "automatic bids" in any playoff, as being your conference champ doesn't mean you are one of the best teams in college football as a whole.
4 teams would be a two game playoff.

Any time that the team with the better record and resume is in a position to have to beat a team with a lesser record and resume twice, while the team with the lesser record and resume only has to beat that team once, the system is flawed.Plain and simple. You can make any other claim that you want, but that scenario is neither fair nor a good way of determining the best team.

The issue is not to determine the better team, but to determine a national champion. Hey, I don't disagree with you, but that is how the system works. It is also the system that the majority of the fans (not me) desire with a playoff system, no matter if the playoffs include 4 teams, 8 teams, 16 teams or 64 teams.
The perfect basketball examples are Villanova vs. Georgetown National Championship game in 1985 or LSU vs. Kentucky in the 1986 regional finals.

I can remeber three rematches in the last fifteen years. the team that won the first game won the second game two of those three times. your argument fails.
How evenly matched were those teams? And did the loser of the first game have to listen to the media for 5 weeks about how they didn't deserve to be in the title game? If not, your counter-argument fails.

This year. Bama did not win their division nor the conference championship. They did not deserve to be in the NC game. And LSU beat them at their place during the regular season.....Okla State got screwed......
I'm sure you're trolling, but if you're not, then lololol.
Okie State wasn't the best team, and neither was LSU. LSU didn't beat Bama in BDS, they won the game.

Oh really? I'd have to see how that worked, since I would have to believe the games would go:
#1 versus #4 (game one)
#2 versus #3 (game two)
winner versus winner (game three)

I think the bama fans were right. I don't think they deserved to be there but whatever they are a very good team and knew what they had to do to win. Good for bama. Enjoy it and don't take it for granted. You stole a good won from lsu.

I can think of 21 reasons LSU was against the rematch and 0 reasons for Alabama! Seriously, lsu fans didn't believe they didn't belong.....they were just afraid of what might happen, and it happened!

2 weeks after the con. champ wk play 1-3,2-4. Play at 1 and 2 home site. split60-40. who ever wins the champ game would be champ.

Hey, Gumps, shouldn't Baltimore get a chance to play in the Super Bowl? They only lost to New England by 3 (three) points?

Alabama and LSU played twice. Once in Alabama and once in Louisiana. The combined score of those games were 27-9. LSU won the first game and their reward was the SEC west title. Then, they had to play the 2nd ranked team. The reward for that game was the bcs title. Alabama was the best team this year.
LSU won in Bama which got us into the SEC championship game. I am fine with that but the arguement that losing to LSU closly intitled you to get in the Nation championship game is screwy. I get the reasoning. The system is what it is and all but don't act like yall deserved it. You got lucky to be there.

With 2 other options. Either we kill the SECCG or the loser can not be one of the 4 teams. In 08' and 09' the SECWest champ or the SECEast champ has to beat the other twice in a row to advance. So you know 2 games in a row with the same opponent. That will SUCK big time.
This
For this reason we will probably have to do away with the championship game. In the past that game has helped propel the winner into the nation championship but with a play off we won't need it.

The system is all we have and it worked. It matched up #1 versus #2. I also think we more than proved who the best college football team this year was. You guys are lucky that you only lost by 21.

The truth is, and I know the truth is the most unpopular thing on this message board, but the truth is Alabama was the better team and LSU was more lucky to beat them in Nov. than Alabama was to get into the BCSCG. And the voters knew that

I'll admit Bama got lucky to get in the NC game. We had to have some teams lose, and they all lost. What were we supposed to do, turn down the invite and let some other team that was even less deserving like Okie Light go in our place? Guess LSU should have done the same in 2007 too.
That said, anybody who says LSU just couldn't get up for a rematch is just crazy. Bama went to the Swamp and beat UF in OT in 1999, and had to play them again in the SECCG. Did Bama take the approach of "oh crap, we already beat them in their house, we don't want to play them again"? Nope, we played them in the rematch and curb stomped their asses into the ground and left no doubt. Auburn did the same thing to USCe in 2010. There are dozens of stories of rematches where the winner of the 1st game wins again the 2nd time around. It's called having heart, drive and character. Sorry LSU didn't have those qualities this year...just means they didn't deserve to be champs.
