He is my favorite player of all time. I still say to this day that MJ is the best player of all time, but Pete is the best to ever do it when talking just about basketball skills, shooting, passing, and dribbling. He is the best when it came to pure basketball skills.

So yes, his record falling would take it away as in normal circumstances he has zero shot in a normal Basketball career

The situations are not 1:1, but they can never be, even if a player did it in three years.

Total points is just a number, a sum. It will be broken eventually. Records are meant to be broken.

This is not a stretch to me. Did you ever watch him play? A ton of his shots in college were from way out there! I expect you may be in your 20s or 30s and never saw anything like him. Best pure basketball player I’ve ever seen!!

Davis will likely get a chance in some lame, meaningless postseason tournament...so record likely falling.

You're wrong Chicken. Davis may ultimately score more points, but Maravich's record will never fall.

Count an extra free throw when he was fouled attempting a 3 pointer

This made me laugh

quote:

Youngstown State seemed determined to prevent Davis from making history at its expense. He got trapped on most of his team's possessions, as Youngstown State tried to force him into tough looks. Davis finished 7-for-26 from the field, including 4-for-16 from the 3-point line. He said he expected that pressure on Thursday.

"Nobody in the country can guard me one-on-one and that's been proven," Davis told ESPN after the game. "I can't be mad about it. If I had someone like me on their team, I'd have done the same thing. That's the game plan at the end of the day."

Pistol Pete did in 3 seasons what this dude is trying to get to in 5.

No 3-point line. Just think how ridiculous Pistol's record points would have been.

No shot clock. Teams could literally sit on the ball. Take the air out. Rob guys like Pistol of precious possessions and he still puts up 44 points a game. Imagine how many more possessions Pete would have gotten with a shot clock.

But those were just points. It was his reinvention of the game that he will always be best remembered for. Nobody thought the game and could see the game like this mop-haired dude from Western Pennsylvania. The no-look, behind-the-back, crazy misdirection stuff that was coming out of his head was as entertaining as it got.
