If anything I could see a situation where Tennessee eventually loses out to Memphis for recruits. Especially when you factor the reemergence of Arkansas as a perennial powerhouse. Memphis is gonna have to scrap to steal players from both directions.

Memphis is going to get anyone they want from Memphis while Penny is the coach, they aren't going to lose anyone to UT or Arkansas.

Well, Arkansas will have something to say about that. Arkansas has an ace recruiter on staff now as well. He, like Penny, is young, charismatic, and has a hefty resume.

Tennesse and Memphis aren’t exactly recruiting the same kind of player, let’s be honest. I don’t think they’ve battled for a single kid since Barnes got to Tennessee.

They really won't have anything to say about it, they might get some kids out of Memphis that Penny doesn't want though

Tennessee has signed two kids in the past decade from Memphis, Penny being there has 0 bearing on Tennessee’s recruiting lol.

Barnes is almost exclusively fishing in the Carolinas and ATL

Memphis kids are almost always more trouble than they’re worth though it is interesting to note that the only ones to find real success are the ones who get out of there, at least over the past 15 years or so.

I don't know how much emphasis Arkansas really even places on recruiting Memphis to be honest with ya. I mean, I'm stoked for y'all. I think Penny is awesome and I wish him luck.

Really I think Arkansas has had the proper approach to dealing with Memphis these last couple decades though. Just pretend the don't exist and they'll go away. Let them have the Memphis kids, but don't play there.

That way Memphis doesn't have a chance to recruit many players from Arkansas and there aren't enough elite players in the Memphis area to build a good team.

So, good luck to Penny. He will need it. But it won't surprise me at all if he does very well.

The 3 at Kansas right now, Skal, Chiozza, Stokes to an extent. All left Memphis and are about the only semi successful players Shelby Co. has produced the past decade

Pretty pathetic for how hyped Memphis AAU ball is

This series is over after Nashville. Bad business by Penny because they need the game much more than Tennessee does. It won’t be difficult for Barnes to replace this series with UNC/Kansas/Michigan State/Gonzaga etc.

I would cancel after next year iwabh.

A neutral site matchup against a fringe top-100 squad is useless for us.

Yeah, Penny has never beaten Tennessee. As a player and a coach.

That doesn't mean much. Tennessee isn't any good or anything. Historically I mean. Penny's teams were killer on the court. But even the good teams lose games they shouldn't. And if Tennessee ever beat his Memphis team, it was one of those scenarios. Tennessee had never had a team as good as the one led by Penny in their entire history.

I'm all for a decent troll but this makes me wonder whether or not you specialize in stupid.

Wait, are you trying to say that UT has been as good as a basketball program as Memphis over the years?

Penny couldn't beat Wade Houston coached teams. I'd hardly call anything associated with him killer.

So, no you don't. I guess we'll just have to see how he's doing after his first year when he gets some recruits in

What?!

This is why I don't like Tennessee. They have a good team right now. For the first time in their entire damn history. And listen to them talk about it now and they think they're on historical par with programs like Memphis and Arkansas.

Ridiculous.
