3rd? I would probably have them 4th in my power rankings right now.

1. Tennessee
2. Auburn

3. Mississippi State
4. Kentucky
5. LSU
6. Arkansas
Etc
Etc
Etc
12. Georgia
13. Texas A&M
14. South Carolina ( @ Frank Martin)

I'd be fine ranking them #10

I'm sure they'll be just fine by the end of the season. Still #3 at best, but those freshmen will eventually start playing better together

When I see those lists I'm reminded of how unlucky both Bama and Tennessee have been when it comes to the NCAA tourney.

Their schedule is so strange (and crafted, obviously). They have a huge game or two early, then play 3-4 dogs at home, then gradually take slight steps back up.

It's like that every season.

Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri and BYU - the infamous "best programs to never make a final four".

Yay?

Pretty much. But the tourney is so over-valued that people don't know that these are all historically strong programs whenever they dip down.

Tennessee has a legit shot to break that this year. The tournament is a fickle matchup cauldron, but damn that's a good tough team.

I love the team we've fielded and really do feel we could go somehwere but I'm also terrified that even thinking we could break into the final four will somehow jinx us. (We've had a ridiculously rough time when it comes to the tourney.)
