Honestly I don't remember it being that big a deal until the past decade or so. Don't know why that changed.

Football has gotten soft from the targeting to renaming the red river shootout to the red river showdown to horns up/down. Didn't the big 12 make a texas player apologize for saying OU sucks last week? It's becoming a joke. Soft.

It’s long been a big deal amongst OU fans.
Was never really a thing at A&M.
Funny that they’re trying to nip it in the bud.
Anyone who’s ever had kids knows that the best way to encourage a behavior is to forbid it.

I remember for the LSU-UF game in 2007 a lot of LSU fans got their panties bunched when Tebow mimed "call me" to the student section after a TD. after they had been calling him all week. Personally, I absolutely loved it. I thought it was hysterical given the circumstances of the students getting his number and calling him all week leading up to the game. It's just good college ball type fun.
That said, I wouldn't be in favor of flashing gang signs after sacks.
But I really think punters should be exempt from taunting penalties.

For being "Texas" they sure are a soft group of people.
Couldn't believe it when we got flagged for horns down. Since we won it was well worth it.
