Props to the kid for helping his team. It is a bad financial decision but it proves he has heart.

Is it that much better to be a flop when you went to the league and werent ready vs when you tried to give yourself more time to prepare and ended up not making it?

Well, signing bonuses for a top 10 pick is significantly better than of an undrafted player, so....yes.
ETA
Last year the #10 pick, Josh Rosen, picked up a $10.7 million signing bonus.

Didn’t Auburn have a QB who did that recently?

Herbert isn’t in jeopardy of dropping that much. The kid is a prototype. Seriously, he’s all of 6’6” 240, a cannon for an arm and with great mobility. His biggest risk is not underperformance. The guy really hasn’t put up great numbers. It’s injury and he can buy a policy. He’s still potentially giving up some money but it’s not 10 million.
