Finebaum started in Bham as a sports columnist for the Post-Herald in ~1980. He was a radio guest for a few years, then had a Sat sports talk show with John Forney for a few years, then ~early 90s began a daily radio show that lasted til 2013. He moved to several different networks and stations. He began on JOX in '07.

Bham sports radio has been relatively good over the last 25 years. It has been driven primarily by Alabama football. It has dropped off of late. IMO, the Roundtable is the best show by far. It is almost national quality. Not much else is better than the usual local/regional pablum. Most of the national shows are OK to good. IMO, the OD had many good guests, but Tony was awful, Jay was meh and Al was just ok.

Cole Cubelic is a great guest. Even though an AU alum, it doesn't show in his guest appearances as he appears fair and factual. As others have noted he could be a viable replacement, though idk what kind of host he is. I don't think most listeners care about the personaly's allegiances if he is reasonable and fair.

I wonder if they make a play for Cole Cubelic for the midday slot? He does a pretty good job on his morning show in Huntsville and he is making a name for himself with other radio guest slots (including on Roundtable) and his SECN sideline coverage. His biggest problem is his co-host is terrible.
Just syndicate his show in the morning slot and move the Round Table back to the 10-2 slot

I wasn’t familiar with Finebaum at all until he moved to SEC Network. Does Columbia ESPN Radio affiliate still carry him?

I wonder if anyone has any tapes of the first couple of years of Finebaum. In this day and age, it would most definitely sink him. Some of the most racist things I've ever heard. He would actually pistol whip most African American callers, make fun of their voices, ect. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He had such anger issues. Radio/tv actually helped this guy because he was something else, and even worse, prior to the radio gig when he was just a sportswriter.

When I've watched, he's abusive to the callers on the show now. Seems the guy has issues, maybe he thinks he's a clever troll pandering to the Alabamians .

The grinning schmucks in the control room don't help much either.

If you're going to troll college sports, hire someone who knows how. Just sayin.
