No one in this thread can provide an actual response to counter the point that a team who loses by three touchdowns in week 14, to a 6-6 squad, does not belong in the playoffs.

They take injuries into account. Jalen's legs were still sore from running up and down Death Valley.

Ironically though, whether it’s 2 (2011) 4 (2017, 2023) or 12….its the same undeserving team that keeps getting in despite not earning it. It just happens to be the team that has the SEC office conveniently located in its state, and that has well-placed mouthpieces at ESPN and with a daily show on the SEC Network, not to mention within the management of those two places.

Oh, it's much deeper than that. It's tradition.

IIn 1964 they got mad about Alabama winning a national championship after losing a bowl game(even though it happened constantly with other teams prior to that). Then in 1965 they decide to count the bowl game and Alabama wins another National Championship because of their bowl win, so they quit counting them again in 1966 and just gave it to a team that didn't play in bowl games at all.

In 1992 Alabama was the first to benefit from the new bowl coalition that allowed #1 Miami to play #2 Alabama in the sugar bowl, making it a defacto national championship game. Alabama would have had no chance to win the NC that year due to a lack of respect compared to Miami. Miami could have played some chump and made it easy. Instead, Alabama wins their 11th National Championship thanks to the new format. Paving the way for the future BCS format once the Pac and Big10 joined before as you pointed out - Alabama ended it.

But hey, I guess that's the way it goes when you have a rich history of being relevant in the NC picture rather than being the fan of a team that averages more than 3 losses a year over the past 10+ years while the media pretends they are a contender every year for clicks/views.

Go join another conference if you don't like it. No one will miss you.

Again, you can’t justify what is happening, so you just resort to childish retorts.

In the penultimate week of the season, Alabama lost by 21 points to an UNRANKED team.

Weird that in 2 out of the 3 examples of "not earning" it, the team in question won the entire thing.

Any comment about a team not "earning" it in 2007 or 2022?

You guys wear your biases on your sleeves like patches.

Alabama has broken you. Tennessee and Auburn fans combined aren’t melting like LSU fans.

LSU didn’t lose by 21-points to an unranked team in the second to last week of the 2007 season.

Are you this concerned about LSU's invitation to the Autozone Liberty Bowl?

But they did lose to 2 teams who finished unranked and still managed to get into a 2 team championship over another team who only lost 1 game in their conference championship to a team who finished ranked 4th.

Looking at this post-

#1 the difference in SOS between Bama and Ole Miss is negligible

# 2 Bama and Ole Miss didn’t play head to head

# 3 Bama and Ole Miss played four common opponents

UGA - Bama one score win, Ole Miss by 18

USC - Bama one score win, Ole Miss by 24

LSU - Bama by 29, Ole Miss OT loss

Oklahoma - Bama 21-point loss, Ole Miss by 12.

Three of those four data points OVERWHELMINGLY favor Ole Miss.

Fwiw - I’d argue that “without incenting margin of victory” doesn’t preclude looking at whether it was a “close game” vs. clear victory in judging the outcome.

Check all the computer rankings, which are literally and inherently as objective as we can get in this flawed system, and report back.

How many more fans does Alabama send to the playoff game than number 13?

This is simple.
