Why the hell would you use millimeters as a unit of measure in a patriotic thread?
frick your metric barbarism.

I remember the SC game and the American flag that covered the football field. I also remember people losing interest in sports. Everyone was in shock. We were projected to have a stellar year in 2001, but our football program fell off the face of the earth immediately following 9/11. Although it's pretty meaningless amid the horrors and sadness of 9/11; Jackie Sherrill's successful run at State ceased between the season opener and the nation's first televised football game following 9/11. The MSU/South Carolina game.

Jealous of all the Aggies that got to go to this game after the attacks. It is many people's favorite memory of Kyle Field.
Never seen that before. Impressive.

It was amazing. Sophomore year for me. I was in the red section. Whole thing got started on TexAgs and was completely organic. I still can't believe we pulled out off.

So 9/11 is what killed State football?

I just wish it was still that way. I know the internet isn't exactly home to the brightest of society, but seeing so many Americans who aren't damn proud of the red white and blue is upsetting.
Still, this is now and since 1776 has always been the greatest nation in the world. The world's lone super power today. One nation, under God.

I remember the Arkansas/Alabama game that year, and seeing the Razorback mascot holding a sign that said "We're All On The Same Team Now".
That fall was probably the strangest time to be an American since the 60s, or maybe even since WWII. Terrorist attacks, followed by the whole anthrax thing.
Late night talk show guys weeping, shows being cancelled, entire weekend of football, cancelled, the same footage being showed on literally every channel on the TV.
Crazy times.

The only time the dumpster stadium in LR has ever been cool. Still a high school version of Kyle Field.

9/11 had an ill effect on everything, but it's definitely a strange coincidence. Most of our own fans probably haven't even thought about how the timeline perfectly coincided with Sherrill's downfall. I mean perfectly. Did 9/11 have anything to do with our program going into obscurity? Very little. But did it have a negative effect on our 2001 season? It must have.
Playing the first game after 9/11 had a strange aura to it. People were trying to act as if everything was going to be better starting that night, but we were still grieving and in shock. We lost to an inferior South Carolina team at home, then got blown out 52-0 the following week. It was one of Sherrill's most talented teams, but we inexplicably disappeared from football.
