They need every way they can to take Vandy's advantage away.

That's the thing, I've never heard a player comment on the Whistler. Not a Vandy player or opposing player. They're just better at tuning it out

The Whistler bothers me to no end but MSU cowbell fans have no standing in this debate.

I think the relevant difference between cowbells and the Vandy whistlers is that these guys whistle with the sole intention of being fricking annoying assholes /pissing people off. Like, these guys have such shitty, boring lives that they get their rocks off on pissing off other people. I can't fricking wrap my head around that concept. If these guys are married, there's no way their wives sleep with him. Maybe that explains it, though. Maybe we solved why they're such insufferable pricks.

Cowbells, while admittedly annoying to most opposing fanbases, are not used for the purpose of annoyance. They are a time-honored tradition. Now, those of you who think it's a stupid tradition have every right to feel that way... no doubt. But it's improper to compare the two things.

Those cow bells are the worst. Why does the SEC allow them?

It is a ridiculous red neck tradition. Beyond annoying. It absolutely should not be allowed. The other programs fans should contact the SEC office to stop this headache inducing tradition. If they can’t jack up there team without clanging these tacky things then they don’t need to play football in the SEC

I mean, yes, if you want to act like SEC football is not part of the bigger entity that is college football. College football itself was a northern thing originally.

Um...this is completely lacking in self-awareness when complaining about Vandy's whistlers.

It’s not the watching that’s a problem it’s the listening. I must say that UGA silenced those things pretty good the last time we went to Starkville. I’m suggesting an effort to get these things banned in the SEC. We are not allowed to ring cow bells in our stadiums or use any artificial noise device - why we would ever want to clang a cow bell is beyond me - and MSU should not be allowed to cause hearing loss in theirs

A MSU fan calling anyone else a hillbilly is rich. Before Misery joined us, you and UT had sole claim to that title. Gonna have to learn to share.

I don't think you know what 'hillbilly' means.

I mean, the whistler would say the same thing about him whistling. The cowbells need to go

Didn't complain, in fact I've stated that the Whistler is getting a raw deal.

No he wouldn't. I think he's publicly acknowledged that he does it to be an a-hole.

LOL, you are about 45 years behind the times on that one. Cowbells ARE banned in the SEC, and have been since 1975.

In 2010, the league ADs agreed to let cowbells be used in Starkville as long as they are only rung at the appropriate times (not while the othe team is trying to snap the ball).

Football fans are encouraged to make a lot of noise. If you don't like the sound of cowbells, then don't come to Starkville for a game. If people quit watching the televised games due to the sound, then maybe the league would need to reconsider....but so far the ratings are just fine.

All these whiners are missing the point.

The stadium and TV people are behind this banishment of the whistler.

If ESPN and the SECN told State to kill the cowbells or no TV, then MSU would do away with bells in the stadium. Guess what? they don't ever say that. In fact, every TV spot from Starkville has some talking head ringing a cowbell.

Complain all y'all want. The TV folks embrace the bells, so they will stay.

Full disclosure: I moved my Club level seats to be as far away from the loudest cowbells as possible
