State gets more out of state students because many of our departments aren't present in other states. My girlfriend is in Broadcast Meteorology and because no school in Tennessee offers it she gets out of state waved. This is the case with that department as well as engineering and the Vetrinary college. Added to the fact that the Engineerig College has built a pretty big name for itself through Eco-Car challenges, CAVS research, and the extensive work that CAVS does with vehicles (like magnesium engine parts for Corvette).

Probably, unfortunately there just aren't that many kids graduating high school with the intent to go to a 4 year school in MS. And a lot of the ones who do are forced on you through federal aid programs and will flunk out in the first year anyway.

FWIW, I agree.
We've come a long way but, for a multitude of pretty complex reasons, black people by and large do not feel particularly "a part of" Ole Miss.
It's similar to white churches vs. black churches. It's also probably no different to what is going on at most other schools in the country. (I mean, don't act like Arkansas doesn't have "white fraternities".)
