I want to hate Nutt but that is unreasonable considering the fact he has turned the program around. Our defense is AWFUL this year, and we have one of the worst teams I have seen in a long time. That being said, we will still win 5 games this year, when 3-9 was an average season with Coach O's teams.
Considering how bad the Ole Miss football program was under Coach O, I think that Nutt has been some sort of a savior to the school. You can't argue with back to back Cotton Bowl wins after going 3-9 the two seasons before. That being said, if Nutt has another 5 win season next year I think we give him one more year to go 8-4 again; if not he should be gone.
I'm of the opinion that a lot of coaches could have done just as well if not better than what Nutt has done at Ole Miss over the last three years. So, I wouldn’t be too enamored with his apparent successes.
Just one of the problems I had with Nutt is how often he told Hog Fans just how lucky we were to have him and he was always making excuses for why we couldn't do this or that. frick THAT! I want a coach who has a can-do attitude and one that doesn't make excuses. Arkansas fans don’t demand that we win the SEC every year but we damn sure expect to go better than .500 when you have a backfield of McFadden, Jones, and Hillis.
Arkansas has a lot to offer potential recruits (as does Ole Miss) and fans just wanted was a coaching staff that is willing to go far and wide to get them, not make excuses as to why something couldn’t be done, or was afraid to go head-to-head against teams like USCs, Michigan, OUs, Bama, Florida, Ohio States, etc. for a recruit. Petrino is getting great players from all over the country and we are beating top teams to get them. Currently have commitments from 10 different states.
• AR – 7
• AZ – 3
• FL – 3
• TX – 3
• OK – 2
• AL – 1
• IL – 1
• MO – 1
• LA – 1
• VA – 1 (player of the year in VA)
I don’t put a lot of stock into recruiting rankings but our current class is ranked in the top 10 and it’s shaping up to be the very best recruiting class in Arkansas history but we won’t know for sure until 2 or 3 years down the road. Regardless, Petrino has done pretty damn well with classes ranked much lower and I think that’s a testament to his and his staff’s ability to evaluate players, their potential, and their character. Those three elements lead to high retention rate and players really developing to be the best they are capable of being. That’s something Nutt and his staff has always struggled with.

I actually dont think that we will be any better. But that will only make the job less appealing
Ole Miss really does have a lot to offer but you need to go after a really good lower division coach or a top assistant. If you really do your homework you can project which assistants would be good head coaches. Some that quickly come to mind that stepped right into D-1 schools are Richt, Stoops, and Mullen and I'm sure there are many more. Remember, all head coaches were at one time assistants.

Arkansas has better football facilities than we do though. And the biggest thing to me that deters recruits from coming to Ole Miss is Oxford itself. If you were a 18 year old black kid would you really want to come to a place that has a reputation for being racist? There are no clubs in Oxford, and there isn't really THAT much for 18 year old black kids to do. I hate to say it, but it is very true.
Granted, there aren't really clubs in Fayetteville either, but Stir on Dickson Street is about the closest thing to a "club" I have ever been in. haha what an uncomfortable night.

Every team has things recruits like and things they don't. It's up to the coaching staff to find 25 players (give or take a few) every year that want what you have to offer. Difficult perhaps but not impossible. Hell if it were easy everybody would be successful.
Arkansas will produce 8-12 players each year that the Hogs want. We won't get all of them but we will get the majority of them. That leaves only 15 or so out-of-state players we have to get each year. I confident that we can get 15 or more players each and every year from anywhere in the US that want what Arkansas has to offer. We just have to have the Coaching staff that is willing to make it happen and we have that in Petrino

You are high. Nutt NEEDS a good play caller.
Personally I would like to see someone young and aggressive....and up and coming coach similar to Malzhan or Mullens. The list of qualified candidates is thin.

With averaging putting up 31.3 points/game and putting 36 on the #2 scoring defense in the conference who only gives up 16 points/per game with an offensive line who lines up Jr, So, Fr, Fr, So, then yea I think he is a good play caller.
I'm not saying he is a great play caller, there is very few out there on the Spurrier, Malzhan, ect level but he is a good play caller.

Malzahn would be a good hire if you landed him.

Any coach like that would be gone in two years to a bigger program.

I am. Say Auburn offered...or maybe Florida....or what about Michigan? Yeah those programs are a lot better than Ole Miss. An up and coming head coach would be reeled in if those programs came calling. And Ole Miss just doesn't have the money to compete against the bigger programs.

But those jobs don't come open very often. I think Rich Rod gets the axe after the Ohio State game and I believe they hire Jim Harbaugh. However, I believe you have to roll the dice on a good assistant coach because even if he is lured away by a top program than it means he has done a lot of things right.

We have cash. Nutt is among the top 15 highest paid coaches in the country. We might not have 4 million a year to pay somebody like Bama does, but 3 million (for the right coach) is definitely foreseeable.

Yeah but if you go firing him....then you wont have much left to offer after the buyouts.
