So you're saying that when not having to deal with the pressure of winning a title or advancing to a championship game, OU does really well.

What an awesome trait for a program to have.

OU has faired very poorly in National Championships and Playoffs since 200, no one is disagreeing with that.

Just wondering where all the "OU will be lucky to go .500 in the SEC-SEC-SEC" posters and media are getting that from??

If the last 20 years play out the same OU would go 8-1/7-2 most years in the SEC

I don’t care for that stat. Missouri and Texas A&M shouldn’t count when saying OU’s record vs. the SEC, except for the Cotton Bowl loss to Aggies. OU really doesn’t have a BIG win against any SEC team with anything big on the line.

I'm a firm believer OU will fare much better than Texas in the SEC. That being said, one bowl game at the arse end of a season is a totally different animal than playing a week in week out SEC schedule. Can't help but see multiple losses on their schedule every year unless they commit to building a defense that won't get run over so easily.

There was nothing on the line for Alabama, and that Auburn team went into the Sugar Bowl with FOUR losses. I’m not discrediting any win for OU vs. an SEC opponent. But those games had nothing on the line on the opposing side. Alabama’s national championship hopes ended the previous game. The only thing that came out of it was two Sugar Bowl trophies for OU.

Care to be more specific?

You willing to Say OU will be lucky to go .500 or do you see 6-7 wins a year out of 9??

So Oklahoma is just like Georgia

OU has better coaches. Saban knows what’s coming.

Haven’t you been paying attention?! They have been building a defense with elite talent. They have depth as well.

Sugar Bowl

If that doesn't matter aTm has to say they have NVER played a game that matters and UGA has played 2 games that matter since 1980, Auburn has played 2 games that mattered since 1957...

Something has to matter in the sport

"elite talent" on defense in the Big 12 isn't saying much. Not sure where that elite D was when losing back to back games last season or cementing a losing streak to Kansas State over the past two years. I'll believe OU can play defense when they prove it.

Auburn played and won the 1984 Sugar Bowl. That game mattered because it was for their opportunity to be National Champions. The polls screwed them over.

2004 was unfortunate as there were undefeated regular seasons by three P5 teams. They were left out. Their Sugar Bowl win sealed a perfect undefeated season.

The 2013 national championship game mattered for Auburn as well. Came within moments of winning their second title in four years.

I wouldn't predict .500. But 2-3 losses easily, depending on their draw.

Say we move to 9 conference games. How many of these teams would OU beat?

Alabama
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Missouri
Ole Miss
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Auburn

Sugar Bowls against Alabama 2013

There was nothing "big on the line" about this game. Alabama had little to play for. The loss to Auburn, preventing Alabama from playing in the SEC championship game against Missouri, and perhaps a title game against Oregon, left little to play for.

True that Bama didn't have a title to play for but that's no reason for the Team to not give their best effort. Same cab be said for Bama vs Utah in 2008.

UGA and AU did about the same vs Texas and UCF. Getting your azz handed to you because you didn't prepare to counter a team that did.

Not that guy but personally I expect 6-3/7-2 type sec seasons for OU. They will blow out lower tier sec teams and lose to bama, then trade wins and losses with teams like LSU Florida Georgia auburn

I remember the local news showing AJ practicing throwing passes during practice in a t-shirt and shorts. He looked like he gained 15 pounds between the Iron Bowl and that game. That team in particular (Derrick Henry aside) was clearly going through the motions.

OU is the only team that has the DNA to dethrone Bama. The dragon slayer is coming. Give us a few years to get those Dlinemen….

Only a blue blood can de-throne a blue blood.
