Just read a long article in the Athletic about Oklahoma's "secret sauce" in the running game. (It's paywall blocked, so I can't link it.)

I'm not an x and o guy, so don't crucify me if I get this wrong.

Basically, they are pulling the offside guard and tackle in a gap blocking scheme to just blow out a gap for the running back. It is "kryptonite" to Big 12 defenses, according to the author.

Here's my question. How would that work against SEC defenses?

The backside "7" technique is taught to squeeze down the line of scrimmage. It will take him to the ball-carrier. This is NOT a new idea in coaching OL/DL.

OU rushed for about 170 yards against Bama. But about 60 of those were empty scramble yards to end the half/game

Of course they didn’t run much because they were down big early. Coach Riley and that offense are legit and they’d probably run well in any conference
