Let's just say there was an 8 team playoff in 2007 based on final BCS standings:
ROSE BOWL
(1) Ohio State vs. (8) Kansas
ORANGE BOWL
(4) Oklahoma vs. (5) Georgia
FIESTA BOWL
(3) Virginia Tech vs. (6) Missouri
SUGAR BOWL
(2) LSU vs. (7) USC
Now, if the CFP (4 teams) was around in 2007, it most likely would have been (based on conference champions and order of BCS standings):
Ohio State vs. USC
LSU vs. Oklahoma
Others to be considered:
Georgia - playing great at end of season. Didn't face LSU during conference play.
Virginia Tech - ACC champion, playing great at end of year. But, did lose 48-7 to LSU early in season.
Missouri - only 2 losses to Oklahoma.

Ok ......
But...as far as I'm concerned, the BCS worked....
The 4 team playoff is good....it eliminates the debate of the only season that maybe the BCS didn't work....if in fact it didn't work.
The point ( in my opinion ) is to get the best two teams in the country to play each other in a championship game...
The BCS did that....
This 4 team format seams to be doing that...

For example....
Would anyone argue that Alabama and Clemson were the two best teams in college football last season (besides homer fans!)
The two best teams played in a championship game (perfect!)
Add more games and the possibility of the two best teams facing each other diminishes...

had they made it to Atlanta
Georgia was the best team in the East that year, by far. I have no idea why they looked so bad in Knoxville. Even with that loss to the Vols, Tennessee was still extremely lucky to make it to the SECCG. It took them 4 OTs to beat Kentucky, and what would have been a Vandy FG for a win clunked off the goalpost.

All is good. I was just throwing scenarios out there for the chaotic 2007 season just for fun. BCS had the right two teams in the NC game.
Les Miles and his undefeated in regulation campaign was similar to USC in 2003 saying they were just as deserving because of an OT loss to California.

Yes......I didn't mean to sound argumentative
Although this site encourages it!
I've actually run across a couple of Bama fans that are reasonable! Lol
This is an awesome format for discussion about what I think is the greatest sport on the planet.
I struggle with silly banter at times!
Thanks to posters like you...there will be civil conversations

I hated coming to work that football season. My boss was a KU grad and the owner is a Mizzou grad. Bama got beat by ULM. I had just left Texas with an office full of UT fans during their championship run 2 years prior. I was beginning to wonder if football could be enjoyable again.

quote:oh my word this stupidity is still going on? ok genius, who should have been in the game other than lsu? and based on what?
Not a legitimate one.
lsu deserved to be in the game as much as anyone and won it. that's a legit championship. morons just make up the artificial criteria that contenders must have 1 or 0 losses.

Having Richt playing nice guy and not lobbying for us to be in the title game,
quote:you're not seriously comparing '07 georgia with 2011 bama are you? because that would be laughable. bama was freakin amazing that year and georgia was just interesting in '07.
Guess no one got the memo when Saban didn't win his division

Dude, LSU never lost to Ar-Kansas or Kentucky in the regular time.

When's the last time LSU went undefeated in real life?
