That's going to be the big question. If he did a lot and the assistants let John L fill those rolls then we are up shite creek without a paddle.

This worries me most, guess we'll find out in Sept.

and I doubt the players and staff will respect him

Many players have tweeted positive things about him. They think the world of him.

It makes infinitely more sense to have promoted Petrino, the DC, or another ASST.

They can continue to do their jobs without taking on the added responsibility of being the Head Coach.

Yeah they actually do. Smith was probably the most popular coach on the team the last 3 years. The players have been overwhelmingly in support of the hire on twitter today.

The players seem incredibly happy with this hire. I really think that is the most important thing that everyone is missing. They will perform to the utmost this year because they are playing for someone they respect. Good job.

Also, we have the option of finding another guy come January. And we will. I wouldn't be surprised if several of Long's candidates told him that the timing just wasn't right and they would be available then. It just makes sense.

Edit: When i heard about the hire I Hated it. Gruden and other names had been put into my mind. Looking at reality this isn't a bad option considering what we had to work with. Feel bad for Weber St.

We wanted it known we aren't afraid to spend money on a coach. I don't think it's too much considering we are paying the guy to possibly lead us to the promised land. If he fails then so be it. Any coaches considering us can't say that we are cheap.

I actually think this was a smart move by Arkansas. Wish Bama would have done this in 2003 with Carl Torbush. I think he would have been game.

As one who has seen John L Smith speak a few times in public, you will be in a for a laugh, he is a complete joke as a speaker and a head football coach. Thanks for hand delivering the west to the Tigers!!!

Petrino on JLS Hire:

quote:

"I think Jeff Long made a great hire. While there were several outstanding internal candidates, John L. brings a lot of head coaching experience to the table that will help Arkansas transition. He will unify the staff, the team and the Razorback fan base. I wish Coach Smith, his staff and the Arkansas football team the very best."

I hope you are not trying to say that Les is a bad coach. You would have to be a fricking idiot to believe that.

I could not care less what Petrino thinks about the situation. It's obvious that he's a selfish prick who doesn't care about anyone other than himself. He can go drive off a f'ing cliff.
