Notre Dame's Shaky Playoff Resume Is A Result Of Brian Kelly's Big Game Problem

Notre Dame's poor playoff resume is evidence that the 2021 season wasn't close to being the best coaching job by Brian Kelly

Yikes

quote:

For much of the season we were bombarded with the ridiculous notion that this was former head coach Brian Kelly's best coaching job during his tenure at Notre Dame. Kelly began the spin during the preseason when he tried to convince the world that a team that started a sixth-year senior, six fifth-year seniors, five seniors, seven juniors and just two sophomores and a freshman was "young."

quote:

It was Notre Dame's only opportunity for a win over an opponent that is currently ranked and it was yet another in a long line of Kelly losses against Top 10 opponents. During his 12 seasons at Notre Dame, Kelly finished with a record of just 4-11 against opponents that ranked in the Top 10 at the time of the game, including going just 2-5 during the "turnaround" seasons from 2017-21.

quote:

Two of those Top 10 wins were against opponents that finished unranked (Michigan State, 2012 - Stanford, 2018). Another came against a Clemson team that was playing without its All-American quarterback and three of its best starters on defense (2020).

I'm not sure what you're attempting to "prove" with your quote regarding the Class of 2012.

That's simply an overview of the offers they made.

They ended up having the #17 class that year.

I've yet to see you explain either how he has had top 5 NFL talent yet been embarrassed in big games

Which specific "embarrassments in big games" are you referring to?

Your article states that Notre Dame's academic standards for athletes have remained relatively the same since the 1970's.

I know it wasn't the case when
they hired Lou Holtz

quote:

Holtz was allowed to bring in certain players that didn't meet academic standards for a good portion of his tenure. However, the new athletic director put a stop to that towards the end of the Holtz era.

On one hand, it is very admirable of Notre Dame to expect more of their players. That is the reason I have always rooted for Notre Dame. They hold their athletes to a higher standard. It is rare to hear about a Notre Dame player in the news for something bad. It is not acceptable to be a thug in South Bend.

ND definitely had some recruiting advantages to offset their disadvantages

Here's a pretty good summary by a fellow L2U fan.

I think they did at one time and the brand is certainly still a draw, however, in my opinion, it has lost its luster quite a bit.

I didn't tell you to post a link to some vague Tiger Rant topic.

I told you to state which specific "big game embarrassments" you keep making references to.

You, a supposed Alabama fan, are attempting to use a vague Tiger Rant thread as "proof" that your statements are somehow fact.

Typical deflection from sidewalk.

Facts are intellectually dishonest.

L2U 3 page threads on tigerrant are vague.

Tiger Rant is "facts" now, per EarlyCuyler3.

Fricking.

Tiger.

Rant.

I'm out and off to laugh myself to sleep.
