"No Competetive Advantage" = bullshite

All you BAMA fans crying about "No Competetive Advantage" being gained in "textbook gate" are full of shite. There is no difference between allowing athletes to sell free textbooks and straight out handing them cash. Either action makes your university a more appealling destination than one which plays by the rules (AKA: where the athlete must get a job to earn money). If you illegally pay players, over the long term, you get better players. Hence, the competetive advantage.
With that said, I do agree that this is a minor infraction and loss of scholoarships would only potentially have been justified due to the "repeat offender window". I also believe this along with the Tim Floyd developments paves the way for a "slap on the rist for USC (which I do not feel is justified).

I'm pretty sure our recruiters weren't giving the recruits the ole, "Hey you can sell your textbooks for money" pitch. This is not a recruiting issue. It's a failure to monitor issue. Now go back to the Rant doofus.

How many times do we have to explain to you morons that they didn't sell the books, they just got them for friends. The NCAA investigated this part closely and found that no money was made on the situation, the books were simply loaned to friends.

The books had to be returned at the end of the semester, so why would a kid buy a book from a player when he has to give it back to the player at the end of the semester.
I know when I was in college I either wanted to keep my book after the class or sell that fricker back to the off campus bookstore for money.

Would a student on an academic full ride scholarship be able to sell their books back to the bookstore that gave them the books?
The answer is yes, and soon if not already, that will be the case for all scholarship students.
Bama is getting an insignificant punishment for a BS rule that is being changed. Yes, the rule was in place at the time, and Bama will pay its little price, but those athletes did the same thing that any academic scholarship student has been doing forever.
You can't discriminate like that and get away with it.

That's pretty much the only way it would make sense, but even then it doesn't make much.
Let's say we have a book that cost $140 at the bookstore, usually you can sell those back at the end of the semester for around $100. So the book only cost you $40. So it would have to be cheaper than that if a player was gonna sell it.
Not to mention the player had to go through the trouble of signing up for the class and then dropping it after he got the book.
If you did this with three books you're only looking at making $100, MAYBE.
It's not worth the trouble.
From my understanding they did it for friends, probably just to be nice, or because the situation was there to exploit.
I know when I was that age I would do shite like that, just because it could be done.

well they could have gotten the free books and sold them as new on amazon. thats what i would have done.

Just curious when was the last time you've ever sold a book back?
I've gotten 33% or more back once in the probably 40-50 books I've sold back.
