Marshall averaged over 92 last season (2012), Texas Tech over 90 in 2013 and the trend seems to be toward faster, each year, rather than slower.

quote:Where does this number come from? The stats I have seen for the last 11 or so years show that only a handful of teams have run 60 plays per game or less over the entire 11 year period.
College football teams have historically ran 60 or so plays a game

Does anyone think this is about a JFFless A&M Team or a Ole Miss team lead by Bo Wallace ? I do not think Saban worries that his eleven being able to handle them in the next few years. This is all about how Gus runs his HUNH and some of the talent that he has assembled the next two years. He knows his biggest advantage is disquising defensive schemes and placing pressure on the QB to recognize the defenses called. He knows to make these calls from the sideline it requires getting the play in and having players adjust. I do not think Saban gives a damn about the direction of the game once he leaves, this is about the present.

The NFL average is a little over 60, why should college players run 90?

I think it's so funny how barners defend the HUNH, if the shoes were on the other foot then they'd be crying foul. Foul I say...

Flat out lies.
Marshall ran 1087 plays in 2012 for an average of 90.58
TTU ran 1135 plays in 13 games. That is 87.3 a game. 3 plays a game may not seem like much but that is 39 plays over the course of a season for TTU or nearly a full half of football.
