You're using the fact that it's a BS poll to suggest that the claim as a whole is BS. Do you honestly not feel like those Rose Bowl teams were worthy of being named National Champions by today's standards? Pre-Bowl/Poll era, the two best teams in the country received Rose Bowl invites. Bama won 4 of those... I think they're legit - regardless of how silly a post-dated poll is.

Then why weren't they awarded the championshi at the time? Why did it take some bogus poll made up 20 years later to do it? Why did it take until the 1980's for bama fans to actually start claiming them?
I can come up with a poll that makes Auburn 1993 the champion, but it doesn't make it legit.

Championships were awarded prior to the bowls during that era - and the south was still thought of as backwards and incapable of anything worthwhile. 3 of those teams were undefeated AND untied - and won the Rose Bowl. The other was undefeated with one tie, and won the Rose Bowl.

Because that's when the UA media department started printing the years in the media guide. Why did they wait until then to do so? No idea.

Furthermore, the fact that the POLL is "BS" doesn't make the year(s) in question's outcome any less significant.
3 undefeated/untied, 1 undefeated/1tie ROSE BOWL championship teams.
There's no way to discredit those teams.
