Finebaum also said earlier this week that he wears his Cam Newton #2 jersey to work every day.

Dude's stock and trade is sarcasm and stirring the pot.

finebaum wasn't being sarcastic... he wasn't stirring the pot with this kind of statement. that's not the type of pot stirring he does.

Bigger things are at work here. You don't frick with The Family and expect to get away with it. The NCAA has messed up now.

Alright, I'll take your word for it.

But I would read Finebaum's comment as a commentary on what Slive and Emmert had to say today... which is that they don't have enough evidence to act YET and they won't act until they do.

The NCAA is going to choose its battles carefully and they won't fire their guns until they have an airtight case. They want this to be over in one battle and not have the battle extend into the 100 Years War with Auburn and the Newtons.

I wouldn't read much more into than that.

finebaum really made it seem like the newtons have been let in on some sort of damning information (not related to the newton's case) that would be hell for the NCAA... for example, perhaps they've got direct evidence that the NCAA wants to drag this out so that auburn CAN go all the way so that there's not some horrible matchup like Boise/TCU that no one wants to watch or that won't generate NEARLY the income that a strong SEC powerhouse like auburn CAN bring....

the Newtons may have proof of this or something? i realize that THIS is very unlikely the scenario, but something LIKE this may be.

Or MAYBE the Newtons didn't take any money and the NCAA knows that the Newtons will file suit against them if they declare him ineligible. If the Newtons took no money and there is no proof that Cam knew what his father was doing, they have a decent case that he shouldn't be declared ineligible. The NCAA probably just doesn't want to take the issue to court.

Finebaum likes to have fun throwing out theories.

He'll also been having a lot of fun chatting about the theory that State might be in NCAA trouble when this is all said and done.

Notice how he often answers callers with "I don't know..." or "That's an excellent question...". He likes to shoot down the cast of idiots that call his show but he also loves to entertain every theory under the sun and then claim he doesn't know... it's all entertainment for him and his audience.

i wish i knew how this whole thing was going to unfold so i can stop being emotionally invested and JUST have fun watching it happen. the not knowing part is actually very exhausting, not the topic matter.

Yeah cause the Newtons are an obviously powerful and plugged in family. They got contacts all over the federal government and the NCAA. I mean I think it goes something like Kennedy, Bush, Rockefeller, Newton as far as the hierarchy of American aristocracy.

see, that's exactly my point. the only thing the Newtons could have that the NCAA would fear would be knowledge about something.

I doubt it. The Newton's don't know jack, and I doubt the NCAA is that concerned about anything they could or would say.

More likely the NCAA does not want to drag this out in public for months. This would be a horrible black eye for college athletics and the longer it stays int he press the worse the NCAA looks. More likely they want one big announcement and let the talking heads go on about it for a week or so and then it fade away.

I think more than anything they are upset with how much play this has been getting in the media, and do not want to throw more fuel on the fire. The NCAA prefers to operate in the shadows and out of the spotlight. That way they can do what they want without anyone gainsaying them.

So, no they don't want a war of words with the Newtons. There's few better at stirring up righteous outrage and playing the poor and mistreated card than a Black Southern Preacher.

Honestly, if the NCAA does nothing prior to the BCS bowl week, I see them making their ruling right in the middle of March Madness.
