Well if you can hire someone that has already won a NC in conference they already have regional scouting/ connections networks in place.

Doesn't really seem to matter these days based on the current recruiting rankings. The schools and such are going to have many of those things in place already with boosters etc.

I think you just gotta be someone who is just really bad at recruiting to frick it up at this point. Especially with all the free agency.

Yes the services didnt exist to that extent, but coaches recruiting hard for HS players is not new. There are literally Bo Jackson recruiting stories

Yes of course, but again Saban was not known as being the best recruiter at the time. He obviously got good players, developed them and won with them, but I don't think he would have been pulling in #1 classes at LSU if they were ranking them back then.

One time maybe but the rest were just to frick with you.

Yeah, but it's about what his reputation and such was before being hired.

Not really. If you find someone that fits all of those ingredients that's a homerun hire from day one today.

Well that's basically Kirby Smart and nobody else at this point. And that would be a much bigger hire than Saban was at the time Saban was hired since he's seen as the guy that's best been able to apply what he learned from Saban.

I think the best you can do is find a guy who's improved the programs he's been at. The more success they've had, the better but it's going to be a matter of what is available. That was really all Alabama had when they hired Saban, and it's the same formula applied when hiring DeBoer. Rich Rod also fit that description at the time, so it's just a matter of seeing how things turn out.

The 2001 LSU recruiting class would like to have a word with you

Also his 2003 and 2004 LSU recruiting classes both ranked in the top 4

I honestly feel bad for you people who have no other hobbies than to sit around worrying about what other people do with their time.

Yes, because a complete offensive/defensive scheme overhaul and massive turnover of players (starters and depth from last year) and coaches/assistants has no effect, especially in September games. And, playing an established team with parity/near parity of talent with the #1 HC in CFB is not an excuse for him.

3 doors down,

A bama friend says he was listening to Herbstreit a week after the Saban hire Herbstreit said "Bama fans don't understand the kind of talent they will have. They dont realize the successes they will have under Saban. It's not an if but a when will they win the NC."

It's no where near the same thing as ranking them in real time. How many busts did they rank as 5 stars? How much footage and video were they looking at when evaluating them?

Rivals has been around since 1998, but really wasn't much of anything until the mid 2000's after being bought up a few times, they didn't do rankings before then from what I remember.

I don't remember rivals having rankings back then. I think they just did recruiting news and some profiles.

But I don't know exactly what year they started.

Saban obviously got good talent and developed it at LSU, I'm just saying it wasn't thought of like it is now.

Deboer has more blue chippers than anyone in the country. Probably more blue chippers than one P4 conference combined. Any loss is an indictment on the staff.
