As a proud alumnus of the University of Alabama, I would like to kindly invite you to kiss the collective "Alabama Nations" arse. UA is the flagship university for the state of Alabama. The people of the state of Alabama and their tax dollars support the university. If Jimbo the mechanic wants to support the university through its football team, that's his prerogative. I genuinely cannot understand how a fan of a school that prides itself on being in touch with the land, can look with contempt upon those who work it and didn't have the chance to continue their education.

I agree completely...alabama is the state university and with that comes the unaffiliated fans for the most part. Still not sure where the frustration/anger/hate is coming from.

also give up on the spin of this as though i'm looking down on folks who may not have had the luxury of furthering their education. That's your spin on what you read and certainly not my opinion.

It is derived from your flippant remarks concerning the people I was just referring to. You will agree with my premise, yet then belittle those that make up the basis of my argument. If you thinks it is a bad thing that individuals, who do not hold a degree from a particular college, identify and cheer for said college, then

I agree completely.
is completely false.

Every barner I know, and that includes several in the family always thought they were better than any one else. Barner's are always talking about how much smarter they are, how much more mature, how they are family, bullshat, bullshat, bullshat.

For the last few years, while Bama has been down, barner family members have gone around with their noses in the air proclaiming they were the best. Just read some of the Auburn posts on this sight to see what I mean. Even their ex-coach, Tubbie, always had a smirk on his face.

The "holier than thou" syndrome.

Belittle...sorry but I think you're putting tone into what you're reading, or making assumptions of how others feel. I just think its a bad thing to have an abundance of unaffiliated alumns of the school, as I prefer the auburn family idea.

You think its pretentious that we refer to ourselves as an auburn family...probably crack jokes about the "war eagle" thing in airports or bars around the country, but its true. If you run into someone wearing auburn garb its likely that he or she went to the university and you have shared experiences. That's what I like about it, and something that i would assume is diminished with having an unaffiliated fan base.

You're just looking for an argument...sorry if i'm not giving you what you want.

Just a post Thanksgiving day tune-up game for Bama before taking on UF and the Tejas. 2nd/3rd teamers need some PT time.

Brah. You'll have to forgive The Barners for saying "Jerden" instead of "Jordan" That's their way of showing some "Class". I heard the Burger King over there is going to become The "Bovine King" to give it more distinction....

I hate how Bammers call Auburn "Barners". Auburn hasnt had cows or a active Barn on campus in years. I also don't understand how it has become a bad thing to be a man who raises cattle or works a farm for a living. According to Bammer logic this is a bad thing that Auburn is associated with. Wildlife and Forrestry majors are also considered Barners.

so, ... SHOULD you guys be associated with barns and cows or not? i couldn't tell by your response here ;)

You folks shouldn't blame Auburn folks for the way they pronounce "Jordan"... blame their dumbass ex-coach who didn't know how to pronounce his own last name.

Your comment.

i think having people associating themselves with the university who have no legitimate ties to it is a bad thing.

So how am I

?

I do not. The pretentiousness comes in when you exclude those who support the university without having received a diploma. I, myself, feel a certain kinship with those who have trod across the Quad heading to class. Those who have spent endless hours in Bidgood Hall or Gorgas Library. However, those who give to the university, either to the athletic or academic program, all share something that goes beyond the halls of academia. That is a love for the Capstone and everything she represents. That is the definition of a family. Using your logic, an adopted sibling would not be a part of the family, simply because they don't share the same DNA as the other children.

A lot of farmers I know make a shite ton more money than the average person.

Since I am a secondary Auburn fan I will say Bama thinking they are head and shoulders above the rest because of Bryant is so annoying. I wasn't even alive when this guy was a coach and neither were any current college football players.

Does any one know why Shug Jordan got the nickname "Shug"? It actually was "Sug". He got it cause he liked to suck on sugarcane.

See, they even pronounce Sug as Shug.

Be that as it may, please refute what I said before your carefully selected quote section.

Yes I know about these links, my room-mate is an animal science major. His family raises Angus beef in Tupelo, MS. The problem with your argument is that all of those departments are miles and miles from our campus. Some of the animal science majors have to get on 85 and traval 20 miles to get to these facilities. When you come for the Iron Bowl you wont see any cattle near our campus and the one red barn hasn't been used as one for years.

Damn, that's funny. I think if one went to the Chevron on Wire Road to get a Subway sandwich, they could look to their left when they came to the Suge Jordan intersection. Nice pasture with cattle in it right along there. Just throwing that out there.

That is not Auburn's campus, I know exactly where you are talking about but that land is owned by an Auburn native and he keeps cattle there because of the pond. Auburn has been trying to buy him out for years.
