It's really going to be hard to predict what is going to happen but I am more optimistic after watching the first week of games. The biggest thing to me is the gap between the OL's of both teams is massive and I think that is a huge problem for Bama.

If Bama can't own the LOS it destroys the offense. It makes a 3 yard gain into a no gain. It makes a 5 yard gain into a 15 yard gain. Also, it makes McCarron look very average. AJ is not a running threat and isn't terribly mobile. He had some drops against VT but still he had a 43% completion percentage. If he doesn't have the one long pass he really has a bad day. Bama has to control the clock and move the ball against A&M, period. You can't just keep giving the ball to the A&M offense and expect to stop them.

For A&M the defense is the big concern, obviously. It looked like a scrimmage out there with so many new players and substitutions. How much will they improve? Hard to say. There was a HUGE difference between the 1st Team D last year and the 2nd/3rd. Against Auburn, Sam, MSU, and Mizzou for instance A&M was up by at least 35 points and then brought in the backups and gave up some scores. We will just have to see.

The offense though is going to be very, very hard to stop. It really wasn't a great game offensively for A&M but they still scored 52 points with Manziel only playing 5 series. The OL had some blown assignments and looked ok and yet A&M only had 3 negative yardage plays out of 66. Malena looks even better than last year and Tra Carson is an absolute monster that is going to make short yardage stops extremely difficult against A&M. RSJ had a 70+ yard TD. They also kept it very vanilla and likely intentionally did not throw to Cam Clear, our new TE that has torn it up in practice. He is likely going to be unleashed for Bama with no game film of him.

I also am very happy A&M has another warm up game this week while Bama has a bye. Honestly I think both teams look like they need reps so I'm glad we are getting them. Sam btw is actually a really good FCS team (lost in the Championship the last 2 years to ND St who beat K State over the weekend). A&M will crush them but at least they are a well coached team that will do more than just lay down.

It's going to be fun.

My confidence is still about the same. I've seen Alabama too many times play a top ranked team like monsters and then all of a sudden struggle offensively against a lesser opponent. They destroy Clemson and then struggle to move the ball against Tulane only to play UGA and play fine. They struggle against Kent State but then turn around and play well on the road against Penn State. They destroy Michigan but then all of a sudden give up six sacks against Western Kentucky.

They could very well have problems but I'm not buying until I see it against a team that will pose a serious threat. Plus it was the first game and VaTech did some nice scheming defensively of their own.

31-20 Bama.

Bama's biggest problem is to decide which one of two very capable players to start at left guard. Bama will rush for 250 yards vs aTm and will by 11. 35-24.
