Well, if he did all that there, but we're doing better with less than all that, wouldn't that just mean he's going to a better program? IF we offer him the HCIW tag, it's b/c we believe Spurrier can make him a HC in 2-3 years. Also, Spurrier is sticking around afterwards as a consultant, he's said that publicly as well.

As part of his new contract, Spurrier has the option to stay on as a special adviser to the president and athletic director when he does hang up his coaching visor for good.

His contract doesn't say anything about being a consultant to the head coach.

That illegible mess you posted is written as if you thought he would be...

Insightful post. You either are an alter or an auburn eagle faithful. Either way I'm sorry

Neither, actually. Just felt that was all that really needed to be said to someone who thinks Smart is "basically Saban."

Guess we will find out later on in life. Who are you to say he isn't the closest thing to him? Maybe he will be even better. I think most people expect Smart to be the eventual coach at Alabama or UGA.

1. I didn't post the first quote

2. That post doesn't say he would be a consultant for the head coach

I guess we will. Expecting him to be the HC is one thing. Expecting him to have the same results, or similar, is a complete other.

As far as who am I to say, I have the same right as you to share my opinion. 'Merica, bitch.

Yep, but at the same time, RJ and I watch Alabama and know a lot more about Alabama than you do.

Well, then you posted the link for CIYE.

Well written or not, it's the insinuation.

Maybe CIYE needs to work on developing complete, coherent thoughts?

In Spurrier's last contract there was clause giving him the option to serve as a "Special Advisor" to the athletic program after his retirement..

Spurrier loves Columbia and plans to split his retirement between Columbia and Crescent Beach. Columbia is good to Spurrier, he's the mayor here.. It's really not as bad as many of you like to make it seem. Close to great SC beaches, great NC mountains, close to Charlotte, ATL, and Augusta.. So close to Augusta that many people stay in Columbia during the Masters because of the price gouging in Augusta. Spurrier is home.

Many articles came out at the time about Spurrier staying on to advise.. but I had this one in my bookmarks. I'll post more as I find them.

LINK

Scroll past the stuff about his son, it's towards the bottom..

Here's more on it....

They talk about it a little here as well...

You're very welcome.

Of course. Spurrier loves USCe. It feels like home as far as he is concerned.

The original post was written in a manner that could easily be misread that he would be consulting the next coach.

No coach wants to feel as if, "the last guy," is breathing down their necks. I find it difficult to believe that tOBC would do such a thing to anyone, much less his friend.

The article states he has the option to stay on as a, "special adviser to the President and Athletic Director."

I doubt that means he plans on being an integral part of developing the next Coach, but I could be wrong.

I'm sure he's not hanging around to breathe down the neck of our next HC... but he will be serving as special advisor to USC.. In an article I read that I'm still looking for, it stated that his role as Special Advisor would be mainly administrative and some booster roles... but if Muschamp does eventually become the next HC at SC then I can guarantee you Muschamp will occasionally lean on Spurrier for advice... mostly because they're friends and Spurrier is an offensive genius but also because that'll be Spurrier's role... to advise.

Our current AD, Ray Tanner won big at Carolina as HC of our baseball team, so much so that he was promoted to AD... he's an admin now but he still advises our current baseball HC Chad Holbrook.. who's a dang fine coach himself.

Lol y'all really must be optimistic if you think a HCIW deal is at the top of Muschamp's desire list.

Ladies, simmer down. muschamp's buyout was like $6.3M. He doesn't need to be a d coordinator - he can afford to wait.

Well someone had to go and find the links for y'all and you could've googled it yourself, I hope you're proud. Like I said, he's going to stick around afterwards and consult.

As much as it pains me to say this, SC has a lot more stating power in this than I'd like to admit.

A&M fans thinking they are going to get Muschamp
It's only between Auburn and South Carolina. I forgot A&M even offered him
