Ok then what about 1980? I wasn't alive then but I'm sure the gumps were still talking shite.
LINK
besides alabama was still a much better team than we were in 2006.

I was at the game. When Bond muffed the snap at the one the stadium let out a collective *gasp*. T-shirts that read "I was there when we beat the Bear" sold like hotcakes and 80,000 claimed to be at the game.

Seemed like a hell of a game. Wished they would put the whole game on the SEC digital site.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but the Dixon run reminded me of Earl Campbell....I found this highlight video of him. All the runs are great, but if you only have a second, go to the run at 2:46 (everyone talks about getting "trucked" - this is the picture in the dictionary) and then the infamous collision at 3:01.
It is amazing how he carried the ball like a loaf of bread.

It was that....MSU fans just knew Bama was going to drive down the field and win in the last minute. When MSU recovered the fumble the place went nuts. Cooks at LB and Bond at QB; both had stellar careers.

All those collisions caught up with him. He's a wreck and can't walk anymore.
You'll never meet a nicer guy.

I never got a chance to see any games in Jackson. Kinda glad we still don't play there since I'm only 2 hours from Starkville.

I bet - you've met him in person? He was such a beast. So many of these guys struggle in later life with joint/back/head issues.

Many times. A class act all the way.

My parents were at State at the time. They have an ornament on the tree every year. MS State 6 Alabama 3. Pretty cool but doesn't speak much for our program.

Now I'm curious as to how you would be in his circle of friends....I know you are the Hamburgler.....did you used to play ball too or something?

I wouldn't call myself in "his circle of friends". He's not some unapproachable celebrity type person. Mostly at football events, but I've seen him around town and he's great to stop and chat.
It's no big deal.
Earl is pretty much confined to a wheelchair now. If you see a picture of him at an event, where he's standing to speak, it's pretty much a photo op.
