but there are really only a couple recognized ways to be declared champs in football... and Alabama was awarded them in 1964

FWAA was legit. I'm not just saying this. The 1964 champs are widely recognized as Arkansas and Alabama.

Been here long before you and this board was a better place then. Is it a prerequisite that you've got to be an arse to post here now?

Doesn't look like it. There isn't a TD.com Wonderlic either, which I will implement when the papers are signed with Chicken relinquishing control to us.

Would Bama have been awarded by those who awarded them had the bowl games been taken into account as they have been almost every year since then?

no, but back then bowl games were essentially exhibition games

when the rules by which the opinion polls awarded championships changed then things became different

no they aren't

people who know about them may regard them as having one of the great college football seasons not to win a championship tho

1964 isn't the only year that there is more than one team who can claim a national championship for the season...

Very true....Many people believe USC was the clear national champion in 2003...makes sense to me...

Too bad. I'm sure half of these posters wouldn't be here.

I don't think you know how to read a map. I know you know how to read a scoreboard, however, which is a move in the right direction. Keep plugging away, Lil' Nugget.

Since you joined the SEC, would you trade Arkansas's success in football for LSU's?

USC was awarded the national championship by the AP in 2003 so they are in fact the 2003 national champions, no others can lay claim to the title this year because the AP didn't award it to them.

From 2001-2007? Yep. Any larger scale? Nope.

I think what you guys fail to recall is your 90's sucked just as bad. And your 80's were abysmal. Let me pose this, would you trade your coaching staff of Saban and subsequently Miles for Houston Nutt? I think you see where I am going... our culture has changed. We're not where we need to be, but we're not afraid to get there anymore.

they are the AP champions....but you're leaving out one small detail. I'll give you a few minutes to figure out what it is.

No small details, the AP is the only ones who count.

except the two places that matter... the AP and UPI/coaches

Look, it isn't fair... and in some ways I wish it were different because IMO LSU has been similarly jobbed a couple times in their history (esp 1908)

But there are only a couple polls people recognize... people have heard of Dunkel and Sagarin... and those things have some prestige in that sense... but even so that recognition doesn't mean we actually credit Michigan and Notre Dame with co-championships in 1964
