Knowing nothing about the man here are a couple of cold observations:
1. Although he apparently sucks as an NFL head coach he had two back to back NFL DC jobs before taking over the Cardinals. If you are doing a poor job as DC, you don't get asked to be a HC.
2. Unless he was fired from any of his previous positions mobility can indicate you are in high demand (with a reservation for lack of loyalty)
3. Although Dooley didn't work out so well, I do think having a coach with significant NFL experience would be a plus in recruiting. Let's face it, the 4 and 5 stars coming out of high school all believe they have what it takes to one day be playing on Sundays. If Wilks can sell them that he can coach them up to get there because he knows what it takes, that could be appealing to a kid.
Again...just some kneejerk observations.

He bounces around from job to job. That might be what you’re thinking about.

Wilks didn't work during the 2020 season and told Joseph Person of the Athletic that he wanted his next position to come with some longevity.

Serious question but has there ever been a former NFL coach that recruits well besides Nick Saban?
I generally see the best recruiters being the younger assistants (30's to early 40s) that have the energy to do stuff like that.

That’s what everyone says in interviews. I have yet to question someone on job hopping that didn’t tell me they were ready to settle down.

I can understand why the Hogs are butt hurt over this hire but let's get the facts straight.
- Wilks was 3 years with the Chicago Bears (2006–2008)
- Three years with the San Diego Chargers (2009–2011)
- Six years with the Carolina Panthers (2012–2017) including as arse. HC and DC.
- Was hired as the HC with the Cardinals then fired after only one season.
- Was hired as the DC of the Browns and let go when the injuries caused the defense to collapse late.
He took 2020 off (with pay) to carefully evaluate the next job he wanted to take and Eli Drinkwitz convinced him The Missouri Tigers were the best fit.
The best news is Mizzou has finally purged itself of the residue of the Odom malaise and with real NFL professionals on board should keep kicking Hog arse on the recruiting trail as well.
