Reports are that Mississippi State officials are finalizing a deal to make Navy's DC Brian Newberry the next Mississippi State Defensive Coordinator.

Good hire if true. It’s going to be so much fun having Leach in our time zone. I’m legit watching every game.

What's his other experience? I wonder what kind of recruiter he is? Since the head guy doesn't like to recruit, it's imperative that he hire assistants that are good at it. Not saying this guy can't do it either, just have no idea who he is. Good luck.

He turned Navy's Defense around in just one year
Navy was ranked 86th in the country prior to Newberry in 2018
Navy was ranked 17th in defense in 2019

Just contemplating the downvote. Do the reports not really exist? Is it because the OP misspelled Brian? Is it just that tRant is a magical place?

The reports are true. Rosebowl is reporting that Newberry is supposed to be in Starkville and expect the deal to finalized today.

It seems that way. Newberry made a huge turnaround at Navy in just one year.

Well, that is concerning especially when it comes to recruiting. The SEC is cutthroat and you guys will be recruiting against Lane. Leach knows this however and he knows football so I am sure he is good enough.

I dont really know, I dont think he was on list though.

Just a casual fan that saw him revamp that navy defense.
