Can someone tell me what has happened to Stansbury this year? I haven't followed them at all. I know there have been suspensions and tweeting and shite, but what exactly has happened to MSU this year to be so bad???

Who knows Al, it's out of our hands. Might wanna call up SS on that one.

A buddy of mine has tweeted him a few times FWIW

I wonder how our big basketball boosters feel about Stans after this disaster of a season that we have had.

Are there any coaches out there who aren't coaching this season like Gottfried that would be interested/a target.

Same thing that happened to both John Brady and Mark Gottfried right before they got fired. A downward spiral that seemed to snowball and go from bad to worse.

What about ol Utep coach, former USC and Chicago Bulls... Tim Floyd?

I think he could definitely bring in the talent, even more so than Stans.... but is it too much baggage

Nope, but look to my original post, and I think I have a decent list of possible candidates all coming from mid majors with the exception of Chris Collins from Duke. I would take him or WOJO in a heartbeat but I think thats just a pipe dream.

Hiring Gregg Marshall would be a homerun.

HELL NO!

Floyd is a retread, I think we need a young energetic coach who is a strong disciplinarian who plays solid defense, and runs a good offense.

Why are you so high stung on Marshall? Because C34 likes him? Yeah i know he is leading the MVC at 21-5 or whatever... but what else?

Yeah, the Ole Miss fan in me wouldn't be too happy to see Marshall, but that would be the best and most likely hire. How many years left/would Stans have a buyout?

I have watched his team play twice this year on TV, and they are VERY WELL COACHED. Played rugged man to man defense and run a great offense. Marshall has won at Winthrop and is now winning big at Wichata State. Last night his team won at Northern Iowa a team who made the sweet 16 last year by 18 points.

I have nothing against Tim Floyd, but I think that we need a new fresh start with a younger coach.

What about keeping Stans, would you as an Ole Miss fan, personally want that? Just curious

3 and if we could somehow hire Marshall for not that much I can definitely see this happening.

I understand that. Oh is Marshall that cat that was coaching Winthrop about 4 years ago, when they came to the Hump and beat our arse? He kinda looks like a younger version of Stans? (Looks only) Slicks his hair back and all

Honestly yes. Simply because he's on his way down currently. I think bringing in a younger coach like Gregg give you a leg up on us. Then again I'm not on the fire AK bandwagon.

As long as Stans has been here & have been a consistant guy for us for years. I just hate it having to get ugly for him and MSU. If there were a way, I'd like to be able to keep him on board some how... helping in the office, recruiting ect...

Yep thats the same guy. He is a really good coach, and the top candidate IMO.

Tulsa's coach is worth a look

and Tulsa has historically produced top coaches:

Nolan Richardson
Tubby Smith
Bill Self

The guy was a PG for Navy and is obviously very disciplined(Duke hired a disciplined PG from Army that turned out ok)

Note that an Ole Miss fan is trying to suggest a coach like Gottfired.

He'll be a waste of your time. Gottfried, at best, could handle a middling mid major to compete decently in their league. He did OK at Murray State. He could possibly do OK at a school like USM. That would be his BEST opportunity.

Tulsa is struggling this year.

They are only 13-10 in C-USA with bad losses to SMU, Houston, Princeton, Arkansas Little Rock, and Appalachian State. They have also lost to my boy Gregg Marshall and Witacha State.

Tulsa's coach is named Doug Wojcik and he was PG at Navy with David Robinson i the 1980s. He has a solid track record as an assistant coach at Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Michigan State. He has had som 20+ win season at Tulsa, but is yet to make the NCAA tournament. Gregg Marshall made the dance 4 times at Winthrop and will make it this year at WSU.
