Reminds me of the Atlanta Braves in the 70’s-80’s.

I always thought garnet was more of a red shade than what SC uses.

Maroon just isn’t a “pretty” or marketable color. It’s why you’ve seen Ole Miss go HAM on the powder blue color the last decade. It looks good on marketing videos and on tv more than just regular Red and Blue.
A&M has so much money that it doesn’t really matter but for other schools without those resources, it’s hard to get the younger generation or people to pay attention to your marketing if the school/uniform colors don’t “pop”
It’s part of what makes LSU so marketable. They win obviously but their colors “pop” on video and TV

I’ld be careful. It could go to a “WTF NOW?” scenario like at Oregon.

It could but those “WTF” uniforms are part of what has made Oregon a national brand the last 2 decades. Along with a frick ton of Nike money

National brand in athletics or numerous jerseys (like Pokémon “gotta catch them all!”)?

Those were particularly bad. I think it was “gator skin”

Arkansas has gone through a milder iteration of this and the Collegiate Licensing Company failed to protect cardinal and white. For a time they actually listed our colors as red and black ….. apparel designers etc. took that and ran with it and now you see it as a background color on TV commercials etc. They still use (crimson) and white in OU and usually Bama’s offerings but use black in ours like SC or worse; little brother Arkansas State. Here, the two largest universities in the state and the UA is using ASUs colors. If someone wanted to file a suit over brand/color infringement as we occupy similar markets, they could.
The big problems happen with programs which have only one main color plus white. The only way I see of fixing things for Arkansas would be to add a third color. Blue (like our flag) would make most sense but people would say we’re trying to look like Ole Miss. Other thoughts might include gold like the 49ers, yellow like the Chiefs (don’t care for them) or USC or silver like the dreaded Buckeyes. We used a variation of silver once to honor Jerry Jones and the Cowboys while playing in Jerry World using cardinal instead of blue and I personally liked them.
Auburn has two colors as does Florida, LSU and a host of others who rarely wear black. As the two color scheme (plus white) looks great - no guessing there.
Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and the likes continue to have issues.
That’s the only way to get rid of the black unis etc. is to add another color.

It's gotta be tough... your rival has the greatest uniforms color combo of all time, then comes over the top with the powder blue just to drag nuts across faces.. and your school colors are essentially doodoo brown and you try to spice it up with black

And we have garnet, not maroon.
