I’m not as old as a lot of you boys. I became a conscious Texas fan post-Mack Brown. The team was pretty average during my time at the University. All I really know is a dysfunctional Texas Football program, so I don’t really care for perception. It was just an observation. Since NIL became prevalent it seemed as if the eager and early adopters weren’t getting championship results. The teams made up of mostly in house developed HS prospects were winning. This season it’s looked a bit different.
I wonder if it willl ever get to the point that teams don't bother recruiting HS players anymore. In effect, portal loads of guys in every January and then use the HS recruits to fill up the rest of your roster.

Florida State for instance, they had a portal built team last year and were terrible, they have a portal built team this year and outside of beating a sleep walking Alabama team that thought they didnt need to show up for the game, they have been mediocre at best.

the usual suspects involved in the big game portal hunting world are having the most success
This is because of general parity across the board, I think, and it probably feels that way because we're not used to seeing it week-to-week.
Teams can address obvious decencies but IMO it's still an advantage to have a majority-recruited roster that have been together longer.
It also works both ways though — as Saban has pointed out, sometimes those players are in the portal for a reason.
As a side note, I think college basketball figured this out a while back. One-and-done doesn't really work, and old guys who can't get drafted don't typically work, but the right mixture of young talent and senior experience can create magic.
