Finally!!!!!!! Good coaches/people do not lie to their players/employees about any direct question asked to them. Now it is not his duty to report to his team what and who may/might contact them next week. Player and coach alike will always do what is best for them and their families but out right lying is a character flaw and follows you. If you do not think Burris or any college player would leave college after their freshman years if the money was there then you are ignorant. But to be asked if your are coming back next year or next week or even tomorrow and then purposely LIE about it is wrong. What purpose does lying serve when you are coaching young men. If you do not know your status or do not want to tell them then tell them that.

there are some posters in this thread that need to report to the Rant b/c they can't see things objectively. Towelie, 59, and Slackhouse are not included in that group

Leaving a team is not LYING. Telling them you are not talking to someone else and then the next day you leave is lying. I appr what Saban did at LSU but he has character flaws.

Well then you sir, are a great human being.
These kids are gonna learn sonner or later that honesty and integrity get you nowhere in the professional world. I'm sorry they got their feelings hurt but this is the real world. If they can't hack it they should go play intrmurals.

I am just curious what all of you would have liked him to say. If you are going after another job with another company, but nothing is finalized yet, and your boss comes up and asks if anything is going on, what would your response be? The part in the video that is not shown is that Saban repeatedly, for several days in a row, tried to get by the subject by saying the classic "I'm focusing on my team right now blah, blah, blah". The reporter would not shut up and said "Say it then. You will not be the coach at Alabama." He basically dared him. I believe most men's egos would have taken over at that point and MANY men would have said the same thing. Kind of like "Fine. I can deal with your crap." Unfortunately, as someone else has already pointed out, the reporter let him hang himself. Saban has also said many times that he handled the situation poorly and apologized for it but the city of Miami, a lot of AU fans, and a lot of LSU fans won't let it go. Just my gump opinion.

So you would be willing to admit then that Miles lied to the kids at Ok State then too right? If that is the standard then, let's see, Miles, Tubbs, Saban, Nutt, Petrino, Meyer, Spurrier, Rodriguez, and Hawkins are all lying pieces of garbage. Who else did I leave out?

Gave that some more meaning.

this was embarassing I was in T-town at the time. But I didnt care once another football season rolled around. I've tried to compare the two situations before and this is what I came up with......
Why Bama fans would be madder at Fran
1) Fran directly spurned Bama to go to Tex AM, he didnt take a promotion to the NFL. Saban left LSU for the Dolphins, his arrival at Bama had nothing to do with LSU
2) It was very unexpected for Fran to leave. We had all heard the rumors about Saban leaving

Why Tiger fans would be madder at Saban
1) He won a NC. Fran did have one good season, but wasn't nearly as successful as Saban

What else Is madder a word?

IMO, he handled the LSU deal kind of sloppily.Again,he took some pretty good raw talent at LSU and made us into a power. And,he helped raise a TON of money for LSU football and athletics in general. What always got under my skin about him --and this went back to 2002,not going to Alabama, was his constant flirtations with the NFL and how he would hide behind his agent,Sexton.Look,Nick,LSU wasn't paying you chump change. If you weren't interested, you should have told that clown Sexton to shove it.

Now,I'm sure the Alabama fans will say either:

*link ?
*Alabama is a better job than LSU
*he's got $32MM reasons to stay
*you are a bitter LSWho fan

or someother well, thought out response, but get ready. The man may retire in 2020 at Alabama. But,get ready. The guy can't help himself. He loves attention. He may not this year because of the lingering Miami effect, but if not, certainly in 2009,Sexton will be working the phones again,'just to see what's going on'.Saban's name will once again be tossed around like it was in Baton Rouge.

No doubt, that was some stupid stuff. I will agree with Bamaatlsu though in that most of us moved on once the season started.

Ah, so Saban did them a favor by lying.

I guess he did reporters favors by chewing them out and trying to give the ompression that "they" were the a-holes for even thinking that he was leaving.

But you would think he would have realized he handles it poorly at Mish St. He also had the chance to realize he handled it just as poorly at LSU.

Without a doubt in my mind, he has classic Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD)

DSM-IV-TRspecifies nine diagnostic criteria for NPD. For the clinician to make the diagnosis, an individual must fit five or more of the following descriptions:

-He or she has a grandiose sense of self-importance (exaggerates accomplishments and demands to be considered superior without real evidence of achievement).
-He or she lives in a dream world of exceptional success, power, beauty, genius, or "perfect" love.
-He or she thinks of him- or herself as "special" or privileged, and that he or she can only be understood by other special or high-status people.
-He or she demands excessive amounts of praise or admiration from others.
-He or she feels entitled to automatic deference, compliance, or favorable treatment from others.
-He or she is exploitative towards others and takes advantage of them.
He or she lacks empathy and does not recognize or identify with others' feelings.
-He or she is frequently envious of others or thinks that they are envious of him or her.
-He or she "has an attitude" or frequently acts in haughty or arrogant ways.
