1995 Nebraska is the most dominant team in history...even more dominant that 2019 LSU.

The most overrated team.

Nebraska’s kryptonite in the Osborne era was an elite defensive front. Prime OU, FSU, and Miami beat their arse all the time with NFL ready DL and LB. And Nebraska always had athletes.

What did Nebraska not face in 1995? An elite defensive front. All Nebraska had to do in 1995 was beat the same Big 8 chumps like Kansas and Kansas Stare that Osborne literally never lost to in 25 years and then a Florida team without anything higher than a third round pick on D over the next three years and no coaches familiar with their scheme.

I would like to see a team line up in the I with WR’s who were not drafted and a TB who was a colossal headcase and try to run over the 2021 UGA defense with five first round picks on D just that year and see how that works out for them.

Are consistently overrated due to the amount of players who went on to become stars in the NFL. They were a great football team, but they had a couple of close calls during their season. Same thing goes for 2019 LSU. When I think of greatest team of all-time, I think of total domination. And there's only been one team since the dawn of the Coalition/Alliance/Championship Series/CFP era that has done that: 1995 Nebraska.

Yes. Been saying this for years. A lot of these ‘stars’ Miami had didn’t touch the field. They simply weren’t a dominant team. Not even in my top 10. 87 Miami was a better Miami team. Actually had a good coach to go with the players

It's difficult to call a team overrated when they averaged a +38 margin of victory through 12 games. Also, you judge a team by the competition relative the year they played and when you do that you come to the obvious question: what team could have beaten Nebraska in 1995? They had already played four teams in the final AP Top 10 and couldn't play themselves, so which of the five remaining Top 10 teams could have beaten them? Tennessee? They got blown out by Florida. Same thing goes for Florida State - though less decisively.

That might have been true throughout the 80s but Osborne took steps in the early-90s to mitigate this. His offensive linemen became bigger, faster, and more physical. You can see the fruits of this labor on display in the 1995 Orange Bowl against Miami. That Miami defensive front was arguably the best front seven Osborne ever faced in all his years in Lincoln, Nebraska. Yet by the fourth quarter Nebraska's physicality at the point of attack wore down such elite players as Warren Sapp, Kenny Holmes, and Ray Lewis.

Floridas defensive front in 1995 was pretty great. We allowed more than 10 first half points only twice and Nebraska just tap danced all over us early and often.

They were a different animal.

Not sure what's funny about that. 04 USC was an absolute monster. It was mostly the same team the next year and Texas punched them in the mouth. It was the last time either team was elite.

They played 2 ranked teams during the regular season. #7 Cal and #15 ASU. They had trouble with unranked Stanford, Oregon State and #7 Cal. Dominant, in that weak PAC, no. They didnt have to play the real #1 or 2 depending on how you look at it, Auburn, for the championship. They are not an "All-Time" team.

The 2019 LSU team is, for now, the best team in college football history imho. I doubt I'll see a better one in my lifetime.

You can make a straight faced argument that 2019 LSU had the best offense of all time. I would accept that stance as a logical one, although arguable.

It is indefensible, however, to call a team who finished no better than 25th in the country in every major defensive statistic “the greatest team of all time.”

2019 LSU defense:

Total Defense - 25
Scoring Defense - 26th
3rd Down Conversions - 34th
4th Down Conversions - 70th
First Downs - 54th
Passing D - 38th
Rush D - 34th
Red Zone - 83rd
Tackles for Loss - 53rd
Sacks - 34th

Anybody calling 2019 LSU the “Greatest Team Of All Time” doesn’t watch anything but the scoreboard, which makes sense - given the topic of the OP.

Scoring quickly and often tends to put a great deal of pressure on a defense.

Bama’s 2020 defense didn’t seem to have that problem.

A buddy of mine slipped Leinart some home-grown American cultivated crack just before he recorded this.

Sorry, LSU. You ain't it.
