Kansas City is obviously in Kansas, and New Mexico is obviously in Mexico.

You know it straddles the state line and there is a Kansas City, KS right? Obviously, the Chiefs play in Missouri, but maybe he's living on the Kansas side.
This would be like calling someone out for saying they're going to New York to play for the Giants/Jets when they actually play, and are headquartered in, New Jersey.

Yeah, this isn't a big deal at all. If someone told me they were from Kansas City, I would immediately ask them Missouri or Kansas.

Ummm. I live 30 minutes from Kansas City and can guarantee you that most of the city is located in Kansas.

Yes the ENTIRE LSU fan base does not know where Kansas City is.
However I recommend you look at some Maps.

And Arrowhead Stadium is a whopping 51 miles away from Lawrence. Or a 48 minute Drive if that helps. So although sure I can see your stretch here.
It really is not that dumb of a statement in hindsight.
Maybe Tyrann wants to live on the Kansas side.. Maybe

Sporting Kansas City is in Kansas. And the Kansas side is nicer than the Missouri side. Also Kansas City is right next to fricking Lawrence

If you polled 1,000 Americans, I bet the number of people who identify Kansas City as part of Missouri would be no more than 200 and almost assuredly less than half. Regardless, his point was his old coach is nearby.
