LSU-Alabama (and SEC) Comparison

Explain this to me:
LSU blows out Texas A&M and Auburn ths year and loses to Georgia and Ole Miss by a field goal and gets blown out by Alabama.
Alabama squeaks by Texas A&M and gives up over 600 yards and gets beat by Auburn.
LSU and Alabama were tied 17-17 in the 4th quarter until Alabama slammed the hammer down and destroyed LSU in the 4th. All credit is due them.
But, why does LSU match up better against A&M and Auburn than Alabama does? Georgia played lights out and Ole Miss - well, that was another example of LSU playing down to their competition and being flat and not ready.
My point is this: This is the SEC. Any team can beat any other team any day - just about. The teams are a lot more equal than many want to concede.
All of this makes Alabama's run since 2008 that much more impressive over all. They have had great teams (2009, 2011) and good teams (2008, 2010, 2012, 2013), but overall, they show up to play each week.
The consistency is amazing. Yes, they have better athletes, but they beat Arkansas 52-0 when they play them. They are beatable, but you better bring your A-game.
With all of the Auburn love and trash talk, I just thought I'd give credit where it is due. In the vast scheme of things, Alabama is not that much better than LSU or other top teams in the SEC. But, their discipline and consistency week in and week out and the way that they finish games has made this an incredible run.

Which is what makes the Iron Bowl loss so shitty.
UA getting flagged for dumb mistakes isn't something UA fans have had to deal with the last few years.

Better coaching, better players, and a better schedule will win you many games.

Yeah, but the difference is not that great overall.
It really comes down to consistency, discipline, attitude, and the little things that makes a difference between a championship and 2-3 losses a year.
I can go back and point out little things that has kept LSU from championships over the past few years. Alabama has been getting it done, however.
Many Alabama fans will see 2013 as a failure. They should not. 11-1 and possibly 12-1 is a great season, no matter how you look at it.

I just think that the idea that the only good season is when you win a championship is overall detrimental to the sport and to the fans.
Alabama had a great season. The idea that they are in decline is ridiculous.
Losing this game might make them better overall, which is scary. It gives Saban a new challenge and keeps him from being bored. Again, scary.

Good stuff, man. Really.
I haven't even thought about it like that.
We had a great season and lost in a great game against a great team. I'm let down, but know this is still a great season for any team to have.
Great post.

Translation: LSU loss was a fluke.

So who do u have as a head Coach next year after Saban announces his retirement? I am sure this death threats to players make it easier for him.

one word "scheduling"
create parity in scheduling and the conference will look different

No. Are you talking about the LSU loss to Alabama? Alabama dominated in the 4th quarter. They closed really great.
Are you talking about the Auburn loss to LSU? No. LSU dominated Auburn in the first half - especially the first quarter - and got up 21-0. No fluke there.
But, the teams are not that far apart overall. If those 3 teams play again, you might get different outcomes.
Alabama has done really well the past few years and this year as well. You cannot win every game. It just doesn't happen. But, Auburn needed 2 TD's in the last 40 seconds to beat Alabama. If I were an Alabama fan, I'd take that and be happy overall, even though the loss does hurt, I am sure.

if those teams played again it would not surprise me if
LSU beat bama
Auburn beat LSU
Bama Beats auburn
It is the west
