Thats the lottery issue. Baseball gets 11.5 schollie's. Split between 25 man traveling roster and 35 home roster. So saying, only the in state kids get it, well yes, thats the issue. They are able to give every in state kid a full ride through the lottery and technically deem them to be walk-ons. Then split the 11.5 amongst the out of staters. So they can offer a kid from anywhere a close to full ride where as the schools in Mississippi and Alabama can only offer very small partial ships and still keep the in state talent. HUGE adavantage! Its not the states fault they have lotteries but the NCAA should regulate how walk ons can benefit from it. But I'm in mississippi so what do I know?

baseball gives 11.7 scholarships & Lsu does not give full scholiies. you must give at least a 1/3 or 1/4 and can have only 35 on the team - ways it goes. in louisiana we have TOPS scholarships but you have to meet mininum requirements to get one & they do go to only instate students & technically not funded by the lottery.

This season's roster features 23 newcomers and nine returnees. Serrano dismissed or did not renew the scholarship of 16 players since the end of the 2012 season.

A friend from my high school here in Texas was one of the players cut.

I personally don't care what Saban does. In fact, I wish Miles would become a Saban protege'.

Unfortunate side effect of the 35 man roster
All teams do it now
It's not right but that's the way it is now
At LSU if you have to redshirt you might as well transfer

Holy shite I have never heard of this. Basically a whole new team

What's the worst that can happen? Another losing season like the last 4-5? At least guys can gel together and I would imagine be pretty decent in a year or two.

LSU cuts some kids between the fall and spring every year and it bothers me.

So do a lot of schools around the country.

This year's team is going to be much better. Serrano is a GOD.

I like it. If those other guys aren't going to win you games, it's time to move forward.

Except that gets around the baseball circles and kids are too afraid to go there because they are too afraid to get cut.

Serrano will have that team turned around soon. He is a very solid coach. I can see UT becoming a team to contend with in a few years.
