The ball was knocked lose when the defender wrapped his arms around him. The ball was coming out before his feet were lifted off the ground

None of that matters when I send 5k to the referee

if you want to have a discussion about whether the play should have been whistled dead because his forward progress was stopped you could probably make more intellectually honest arguments.

Except they didn’t blow it dead during the play.

What if he broke away from the tackler and took off down field? Would you still think his forward progress was stopped?

It was a fumble and we got our annual screw job against Aubie.

Now you are speculating and doing a poor job at that.

The whistle was not blown ...yet you forget, several years ago, it decided that an inadvertent whistle on a fumble is ignore when the fumble is recovered immediately.

Even that rule adjustment doesn't save you.

All the action before the still photo is what determined the outcome of the replay booth decision.

Forward Progress stopped, tackler holding Hunter's feet off the ground, twisting to drive him into the ground ended the play. There was not a possibility of the runner causing any further progress with the ball.

The fumble, in the judgment of the replay booth was determined to have happened after the Arkansas Tackler had total control and was in the act of driving Hunter to the ground .....twisted away from the LTG.

What if?

Not a determining factor with his feet clearly off the ground ...

Try again.

Like has been said numerous times...........when a player is lifted off the ground, forward progress is stopped.

quote:

As for the specific play, Pittman said he was informed because the Auburn ball-carrier – Jarquez Hunter – was lifted off the ground on the tackle that it could not be ruled a fumble.

“They said the ball-carrier was picked up,” Pittman shared postgame, “which meant it couldn't be a fumble.”

those are the rules

ETA there is a video on the link clearly showing Hunter fumbled on the way down.

It's a new rule. Player safety and all. Bitch about the rule all you want but the call was made correctly on the field.
