jesus, i would think of any fan base that Bama fans would have a grasp on SEC football history.
you can't expect much from bama fans. there a few on here that aren't too bad, but collectively the ones that post here might just be the least intelligent group of people i've ever encountered. the one that randomly capitalizes words throughout his posts is probably the best. he's basically alabama's version of hunter brown

quote:It was worse in 2004. Almost every system had the SEC at #4 that year; occasionally you'd see the SEC at #3. It was way down that year.
Worse in 2004? Um no.
SEC vs. 1A, 2004: 24-14 (.632)
SEC vs. FBS, 2008: 28-11 (.718) (assuming Vandy loses to Wake)
If the SEC splits its bowl games, it'll end up 32-15, better than in 2004; the SEC usually does better than .500 in bowl games.
I don't think the numbers are with you on this one, Tiger83.

Take away the 90s and LSU has been an SEC power.
So we skipped from 1989 to 2000? Damn I'm younger than I thought. That is a STUPID comment!!!!!
LSU has been a dominant program in the west THIS decade BUT unfortunately for y'all, the 90s is apart of the RECENT past. Just like, Stallings and Bryant are part of our storied tradition that everyone likes to look past.
BTW, I don't care who has what and so on, all I care about is that we're 12-0 right now.

May not be. You may be right. I was shooting from the cuff so to speak. I may go back and look at the overall records of the top 4 teams and end of year rankings later though. Just the out of conference record does not tell the whole tale. You would have to research winning percentage of SEC OCC opponents as well as rankings and conference records. Too much for me to fool with after the arse kicking we took from Bama today.

I hope daddy ain't watching this. He'd be pissed with spending all that money for a high class education at tulame, but alas... Poor Jethro can't even form a good grammar flame at a dumb Bammer.

Yeah, I know. I went to a horrible school, but I'm not a dumbass twit.

I was responding to the dumbass comment made!
BTW, I'm not sure when the last time the SEC has been down like this. I'd have to go with 2004 I guess.

traditional powers LSU, Tenn, Auburn were all down.
That sounds like a Rodney Dangerfield setup for a punchline.
LSU and the barn "traditional powers?" funny stuff.

Just the out of conference record does not tell the whole tale.
quote:The SOS is actually slightly tougher this year than it was in that year; the numbers are complex, but the combined winning % of all SEC opponents that year is something like .003 higher this year; it's a virtual dead lock.
You would have to research winning percentage of SEC OCC opponents as well as rankings and conference records.
quote:You have my sympathies. LSU lost to its biggest rival yesterday, too.

A bit of rhetorical information: In 2004, ten of the SEC's 12 schools were about as good as they were supposed to be. The teams that usually suck sucked that year. The teams that are usually good were good that year, and one of them was a NC contender (that's they way it is almost every year). Two problems: Alabama and Kentucky were sanctioned that year, and they both were considerably worse than they usually are. Auburn played both. SOS took a hit. The SEC was down that year specifically because of Alabama and Kentucky.
This year, no one is sanctioned, and there are two elite teams. I would call this an average year at worst for the SEC, top to bottom.

The SEC is down this year for sure. The Big 12 is definitely the best conference, after that it's hard to say. The ACC is weak at the top but probably better top to bottom than the rest. The SEC, Pac 10 and Big 10 each have 2 good teams but fall off quickly after the top two.

Two SEC teams are in the top 5/4/3 depending on what poll you look at. The winner of the SECCG is going to the NC BCS game, and yet the SEC is down.
Right.
Right.

Once again, just go down the list and compare each team. LSU, UT, UGA, AU, Ark, UK, and Miss St. are all worse in 2008 vs 2007. OM, UA, UF, and I guess Vandy are the only better teams. You can't argue with this. It is fact.
