re: Kirby did too much on defense; I don’t think Saban makes same mistake

Their pass coverage this year is Meh at best

We had this opportunity 5-6 times and Etling could not get the pass to the WR
Our pass coverage is pretty good. The LSU game is about the only game all year where there have been guys running open down the field at any point, and even then they were still deep routes where LSU found a way to give their QB time.
It's not the best of all time or anything, but it's the best group of individual cover guys (Averett, Wallace and Fitzpatrick) that we've had in a while.
LSU had 2-3 of those. Etling also made 2 or 3 really, really, really fvckin good throws 20-30 yards downfield on corner routes with a guy destroying him as he let go.

I know the segment you were talking about Gus said Kirby like to bring backside pressure with a safety or corner. Just looked to me like Georgia got manhandled and without a run game Fromm isn’t going to win them any games also hurts that Fromm isn’t a legit running threat which you pretty much have to have these days
Look at the MIZZOU-Tennessee game. MIZZOU had about 400 rushing yards!

If some of our DLmen don't get a rest against Mercer, you will likely win the physical battle on both sides of the LOS.
We're beaten up to heck on the OL, DL, and (much more public and visibly) LB.
I know every team has bumps and bruises this time of the season, but Bama's in worse shape with being "banged" up up front than in any year in the Saban era. And we don't have the depth on the DL of past teams. And are a bit stubborn about who we're going to play on the OL. I expect Jeffrey Holland to cement a first round draft pick status against Matt Womack, unfortunately.

Our DL is not good. We need them to step up and help mask deficiencies for young LB and they can't.
When Hand and Buggs are 100%, we're actually very good up front. But we need to rest those guys in a bad way. Hand is very limited, and Buggs is badly banged up.

That is what won the game for Auburn. UGA fans can talk about this play or that penalty all they want. They were absolutely dominated on both LOS.............and you will lose games when that happens every single time.
UGA had 46 yards rushing. 46 yards. That isn't on penalties or muffed punts.
A penalty on 4th down punting that gives the ball back to the other team led to 6 points. A muffed punt led to 6 points. A late hit led to three points. Most importantly, and something that a person has to be able to read between the lines and know the game, IT KEPT OUR DEFENSE ON THE FIELD AND THEIRS OFF. Thats a huge factor in rushing for 46 yards.
3 penalties alone led to 17 points. We lost by 23 and played one of the worst overall games I've ever witnessed. IN NO WAY AM I SAYING AUBURN DIDNT KICK OUR arse. They dominated the LOS, and we played terribly.
A rematch in ATL will be interesting, despite but what the experts on this board think.

Good analysis String. Hopefully Gus has more tricks in the bag.
