but i am still laughing my arse off that the saban replacement lost to vandy
Kirby Smart lost to Vandy in his first season at Georgia. He's done fine for himself. Saban lost to UL-Monroe in his first year at Alabama and UAB in his first year at LSU.
Even the greats have head-scratching losses.

Except that Karen inherited the most talented roster and lost to Vandy and 3 other teams.

Any coach in the nation is a step back from Nick Saban
This speaks to the reality that Saban is first and foremost a defensive minded coach.
Kirby is also a defensive mined coach.
Who was it that said: "Defense wins championships?"
Compare that to DeBoer - Sark - Kiffin - Kelly - Heupel - and others who lean towards being offensive minded coaches.
DeBoer was the best available but is clearly not a defensive minded coach.
Would it surprise fans if Mike Elko, an ex-defensive coordinator, were to start kicking traditional rivals to the curb?
DeBoer still has time, but his current trajectory won't cut it. If he can't make the top 12, Bama fans will be justified to call for his departure.

If DeBoer is lousy, what does that say about Kelly, who was thrashed by DeBoer's team in his first yr ?
In his 3rd year at LSU,he lost 4 regular season games! Yikes!

He inherited a roster that lost 43% of its players in the course of a few days. Alabama had one of the highest percentage of first year players as any program in the country and was forced to start multiple true freshmen. With today’s transfer portal there is no more inheriting a team. The 24/7 talent ranking has not figured out how to account for the transfer portal, they still use the same methodology they used pre transfer portal. It also does not weight any positions heavier than others. Like the NFL, a good QB is a necessity now days regardless of how much talent is around him.
