I don't propose eliminating it but clarifying/standardizing the rule for what is and is not considered a strike attempt on the ball across baseball would be helpful. But, it would remain subjective without challenges and tech to support.

With technology today, there is zero reason from college to the minors to MLB that it can't be improved.

Resurrecting an older thread as I happened upon this article from the WSJ today which is fairly on point with the YouTube vid posted above. MLB will test a technology solution in the Single-A Florida State League:

A couple of things I found interesting/amusing in the article:

...and this from old-school retired MLB umpire Paul Emmel who apparently will not be a fan of the new technology:

Because the pitcher has an inherent advantage over the batter. Even the worst pitchers still get out 65-70% of the batters out that they face. It’s almost the same as a tie goes to the runner when judging if a runner is safe or not.
