I have a friend who competes at the Talingua Chili Championship down there every year. I've never been but he always has a great time at these events.

So far all the people I have met have actually been cool and normal. Maybe they aren't so bad.

If you run into anybody from Lubbock, make sure all your shots are up to date.

YOu mean the internet isn't an accurate description? Gawd Damn, I'm disappointed we couldn't live up to the homoerotic, overzealous, redneck image you get from the corps.

I think you'll find that the 48k A&M students who aren't in the corps are way laid back, love to throw several back with strangers and friendly. The demographics aren't any different than any other southern school.

Be careful if you're driving through Hemphill. I spent a couple of nights in jail down there back in the 70's. I was jailed for being from Arkansas. I'm not kidding. The deputies were all laughing about it and said that was the reason.

I had to admit to "public drunk" and pay the fine. I very rarely even drink and had not had a drop of alcohol. The hearing was held at the judge's house, but since she wasn't around, her husband sat in as a substitute after he got off his riding lawnmower. I swear, I'm not making this up. There's probably some Aggies who can vouch for me, knowing the area.

Probably not the same today, but I don't doubt your story. There are some backwoods towns who love to nail an out of stater.

I've had the experience in Louisiana unfortunately.

How does this differ from almost all other SEC towns? Arky has a few hills.

reb,

I need to ask you a question: did you ever buy the clearly hyperbolic Internet smack about A&M? Christ son, it's one of the most significant public institutions in the country. Circumstantially, that wouldn't be possible if the message board representation was remotely accurate.

Message boards are for lulz, not facts. Remove your head from oblivion.

Thanks man! I knew someone would step up and vouch. I did meet a cowboy from Lufkin in an adjacent cell who let me read some of his cow magazines. He was a hoot! He had been arrested under similar circumstances and had been waiting over a month for a hearing. He kept saying, "hell naw, I'm not payin', I'm gonna wait these bastads out". I just wanted to get the hell out of there.

It's funny as hell now, but it wasn't back then.

Refute away, yiddle buddy.

And no, attempting to use fun Internet phrases to portray more than your patent ignorance is not sufficient.

I'm sure it's not like that today. They told me that I was fortunate, because at the time, I was getting to stay at the oldest jailhouse in Texas and they needed the money to build a new jail. That place had a hanging gallows outside my upper floor cell.

I think Refugio still has the hangn' tree. Who needs to build a gallows when you have a prefectly good oak tree.

There are buses back for tonight and then pledges tomorrow from what I understand.

ETA: the people I have met are way cooler than the douches from UT I met.
