Nope, that was State. Common mistake

Seriously? Should I visit shaggybevo and ask about A&M and see the unbiased reports that I'll probably get?

There's like a 200 page thread on their football board on that very topic, except I think it was an LSU or Auburn fan

just a message to Aggies from a Clemson fan re: South Carolina
you're telling me a fan of a rival of a school went to a message board of the team that is playing said rival school in the next game and shared their biased opinion of why to hate their rival?
sounds like a really unique situation here

That's about the time their admin, Crump, wrote their coding for it. The format of taternet will make your eyes bleed.

Serious question: what's the origin of this? I assume it's derisive in the same manner Ags say "tea-sips," but I like to know the history of how I'm insulting someone when I use it.
Gotta prepare for TAMU@SC2016

I know ... that threaded format is ancient.
You're right though, 1998 is about right. It was the evolution of Matt's Scripts people would take and hack off of his archives.
Trust me ... the taterheads love living in the past.

Their booster organization is IPTAY ... an acronym they adopted in the early 20th century for I Pay Twenty Dollars a Year.
We changed it a couple of years later to read, I Plant Taters All Year ... because they are an AG school.
It also has to do with the fact that they are sheep humpers and they have little taters growing in their ears. Even the girls.
Clemson used to be known as Clemson A&M btw.

They're an agriculture school and grow potatoes, hence taters.
At least I think thats what it means, and I have no idea when/where it originated. Truthfully, I've never seen or heard the phrases tater or coot irl. They're just message board insults like corndog and gump

We've been calling them taters for decades. They came up with Coots in the past 5 years. A coot is a duck, wrong fowl, so it's odd.
However, why we call them taters lies in the foundation of their athletic department. In the early and mid 1900's they were trying to raise money for athletics. They were an AG school and many farmers were supporters of their team. They've always been considered the "poor man" school in SC and many of their donors couldn't donate money but the athletic department accepted donations of produce, like potatoes. So we started calling them taters 60+ years ago.
